Here is a link to an interview with Mark that appeared in the Huffington Post on October 8 about the Privateering album. Conversations With Mark Knopfler It seemed like a nice interview. Mark does say he supposed he could come out with a straight blues album next week if he wanted to! :P So I guess we might get some more blues sometime. He also gets asked whether he would like to write a novel, because he is good at putting words together. Mark says he would be a terrible novelist! The interview is worth a read. Enjoy! :) |

Thanks Linda, I have heard other people ask Mark about the novel thing, and he is correct, I doubt he could write a novel, It's really not the same as writing a song, he is clever with words, but more in the lyrical sense, would someone ask say JK Rowling to write a song? |

Thanks for the link to that interview, Linda. I like what he said about the fun he had recording the blues tunes on the album. However, I have to say that I really, really hope Mark doesn't do an all-blues album..... EVER - at least not if he's just going to continue to imitate the traditional sounds and styles of that genre as he's been doing recently. This is only my opinion of course - and I do like the blues - but there's simply not enough room for him to exercise his wonderful song-writing skills in that very limited oeuvre! <_< And I did like what he said about certain characters who keep recurring in his songs. I'm the same. If I write a song about someone or something, there are almost always a few lines or ideas that don't make it into the finished piece, or maybe a few things that are left unsaid. It's weird but sometimes those things just hang around and won't leave your mind until you eventually get them out in another song! |

Well put, QJF. Mark is pretty good at writing songs about novels, though.... don't you think? :P |

Yes he is, to be able to condense Mason & Dixon into a song takes some doing  I also hope he doesn't do a blues album, although I do like Mark's version of blues, I personaly am not really into it, I always though that the album On Every Street was Mark's blues album, even the album cover is blue! |

True, but Brothers In Arms has a blue cover too. I think I'd be willing to allow Mark to have as many blue albums covers as he likes. But if the colour starts seeping too deeply into the music again, we might have to stage an intervention! :o |
