The new March edition of Guitar Techniques magazine has a feature on Mark's blues playing. The guy who wrote the piece clearly know's Mark well, as he really promotes Privateering, and also A Night In London. They give five musical examples of Mark's more bluesy side of playing. To quote the piece written by John Wheatcroft "While more than capable of displaying considerable technical command of his instrument when required, Knopfler always places the melody and the song first, making his guitar style accessible and inviting to everybody" Which I think is a great way to sum up our Local Hero  The magazine also has a feature on Mike Oldfield, and how to play Tears In Heaven by Eric Clapton.

Hmmm.... thanks for the tip, QJF. I wouldn't mind reading that. I'll have to see if I can find a copy.

Your welcome, it's a good edition this month, 2 of my guitar hero's  I used to buy guitar magazines regularly, but I got a bit bored with them, but Guitar Techniques is a good mag, Total Guitar used to be good, but it's full of new ish band's/players of the same genre so I don't buy that anymore. but GT does have a good cross section of genres, including classical, which I try to play too.

"Knopfler is left-handed, but plays the guitar right-handed"

Tip for you:
Don't ever try this at home!

not at all Linda, though I wish it is so :-(

Hi Val,
That is really something.
I also know few people using different hand for the different activity IE writing with right while playing table tennis with left...

It is not an ability I have heard many guitarists have. Mark has said it gives him the strength to play high bends and to play 3 or 4 notes at the same time with ease, and I am sure it aided his fluid playing too. He is not really noted for playing high bends though, not like say David Gilmour, who is right handed. But for me it all just adds up to his uniqueness, and goes to what makes him Mark Knopfler

Wow, I mean WOW  that was incredible playing from Mark!!! That might be the best version of Telegraph Road I have heard yet, and I noticed he did play some 3-4 strings bends many times too.

Hi, all. I'm kind of disgusted! That link isn't available over here! It sounded from what you all said that it would have been worth listening to, also. :(
