Mark has given an interview to Tom Redmond about his working and personal relationship with Chet Atkins, it can be read by clicking the link below:

MK Interview

You can tell how much Chet meant to Mark by Mark's first comment to Tom, when Tom thanks Mark for taking the time to talk to him, Mark says "My pleasure Tom, I would do anything for Chet." :)

I didn't realise that when Mark played at the Chet Atkins and Friends TV special he didn't have his own guitars, he borrowed them and they were hard to play :o looking at the video's from that show, if that is him struggling with the guitar, I might as well give up playing, lol.

And it was nice to read when Mark went over to play with Chet, he was met at the airport by Chet and Paul Yandell.

Also, I never knew that Neck & Neck was recorded at Chet's home studio, I now know what CA Workshop means. And that Chet's fridge got on the album too :)

Hi, James. Yes, I also think it was a nice interview Mark did with Tom. I will say, it jibed with my thoughts on Mark's association with Chet. I'm sure that Mark's experience with Chet had a bit of surreal quality to it at first - such a foremost producer and musician had actually asked him to join him, then they became friends. I've thought that there was a measure of Chet's influence in his success in the business of making music, his mentor, if you will.

I had to watch that bit of video again where they were in Chet's studio and played House of the Rising Sun. I had seen that video clip, but didn't realize it was a part of an interview.

You are right about him struggling! The only thing I noticed, and I have seen it many times, was Mark watching Chet fingering so that they were in tune and in time, too.

I noticed on the list of YouTube videos they always show was an interview I hadn't noticed before. It was the 60 Minutes 1996 Australia clip. It did have a bit of different things about it - not quite the same old, same old. For anyone interested in another interview, here is the link:

Thanks for the link Linda, watching Mark improvising on stage at the start of that was amazing, it sounded like Freeway Flyer from Local Hero :)
It's amazing how young Mark looked in 1996, not many years ago, because he looked older during the On Every Street tour, maybe that was the stress of how big it all got, and so leaving that behind took the stress away.

Quote from MK "I'm not Dolly Parton here" :dielol:

I love watching the rehearsal footage for A Night In London, I wonder if you can watch all that footage somewhere?

That's also the first time I've heard Mark talk about Brett Whiteley.

That was a really good interview :)
