It has been announced that Gibson are to make a new signature guitar. The MK 58' Les Paul  This is fantastic news, at last Mark is getting recognition for his Les Paul playing, of course he has already Signatures guitars from Fender and Martin. More information about the spec and price to follow, however, I can guess the price will be out of most people's range!!

I've got the Strat. I WON'T be getting the Les Paul. A stock sunburst Les Paul Standard costs over £2000 now, Historic reissues start at around £4600 and the "signature models" can be anything depending on the model & specification! In my opinion, my MK Strat is much more authentic than a modern reproduction of a 1958 Les Paul and I get pretty close to his Les Paul tone with a set of Seymour Duncan "Antiquity" pickups in my Les Paul Studio.

My main concern with the Gibson is that they are going to find it very difficult to produce a run of guitars that all resemble Mark's guitar visually. You can see the wood grain and any "flame" through a Les Paul lacquer finish, so although they may be able to reproduce the colour of the faded sunburst They are unlikely to find enough pieces of maple that accurately reproduce the patterns in the wood on Mark's guitar. Having said that, I'd love to be proved wrong.

Many of the other signature models seem to be a general representation with the right type of hardware, flame pattern and professional "distressing" to replicate the damage on the original guitars.
When you point your finger 'cause your plan fell through, You've got 3 more fingers pointing back at you.
I reserve the right to change my opinion at a moment's notice - Why should it just be a woman's prerogative?

If I had the money I would buy one of all his signature guitars, but that's me dreaming again. They can do a great job with reproducing the Signature models, I remember the David Gilmour Signature Strat, they did a good job reproducing the damage etc that it had amassed over the years.
