The great Australian guitar fingerpicker Tommy Emmanuel has stated on Facebook that he has recently recorded with Mark at British Grove Road Studios, I think this is for a duet album Tommy is making as he has posted about other players he has been working with. Tommy also made a duet album with Chet Atkins.

I am suprised it hasn't happened sooner, Mark clearly knows about Tommy, and Tommy has made no secret about his love for Mark.

Several someones posted a video which has been on the net since May of Tommy doing a song by Mark, as well as a different posting of the lyrics. Here they are.

You don't wanna get you one of those

That old car would like to break your heart
But she too far gone, to even start
Take it for one who knows
You don't wanna get you one of those

She's always been as mean as she appears
Ain't done no Rock and Roll in 4 years
They should put it in a 'Crusher!' I suppose
You don't wanna get you one of those

Leave her over there behind the barn
Where , she’ll be 'out of the way!'
She's got Chassis rot
The gear box shot!
She's had her day

It's all over for that old heap
She needs a whole lot of more than beauty sleep
If you want to get you one that goes
You don't wanna get you one of those

Guitar solo

Leave her over there behind the barn
Where, she’ll be 'out of the way!'
She's got Chassis rot
The gear box shot!
She's had her day

It's all over for that old heap
She needs a whole lot of more than beauty sleep
If you want to get you one that goes
You don't wanna get you one of those

Thanks for that Linda, that is very interesting, it does have an MK feel to it, but now I wonder if that is a song Mark gave to Tommy or is it one they have played together for Mark's album?

Unfortunately, there is no indication about the song, whether he gave it to Tommy or it was on Mark's album tracks. The way it appeared on the video, I'm inclined to think it was more likely given to Tommy, but then, what do I know?

Yes, should be interesting to find out. I think it is a song Mark has given to Tommy for his album, and he and Mark play on it together.

Tommy has announced his new duets album, Accomplice One is to be released in Friday, January 19th 2018, and amongst the 16 tracks is his duet with Mark, a song written by Mark called You Don't Want To Get One Of Those. Can't wait

Here is a little quote from Tommy Emmanuel about his duet with Mark:

Tommy Emmanuel points out that his duet with Knopfler was inspired by their mutual love of country music guitar great Chet Atkins.

“This song that Mark wrote captured Chet’s sense of humour so well and I had the time of my life in the studio with him conjuring ‘The Master’ as we laid it down,” Tommy recalls

Some new information turned up about Tommy's song:

Quote:

Had the pleasure of watching Tommy in Buxton last night and safe to say he is truly phenomenal.

He spoke briefly about MK and I summarise below:

Tommy wrote to MK asking if he would like to play on his new album, Mark replied he would but he never plays of other people's song so it would have to be one of his own.

Tommy replied saying that he loved everything that MK had ever written and was sure he would like his new song even though he hadn't heard it yet.

MK played the song for TE in the studio and TE worked out his part. The recording, mixing and mastering of the song took less than one hour. They even had chance for a coffee and some food during this hour!!

MK told TE that the song was about a car and not a person but that TE should be prepared for people to think that the song was about a person, even though it WAS just about a car.

TE said that MK was extremely busy and was working on three "film projects"

Interesting!

Thanks for the update Linda. what is interesting is the comment about three film projects? really? that is news, we know he is working on the Local Hero musical, and his solo album, but 3 film scores!!!!!! if that is true, then it is no wonder Mark couldn't attend the RRHOF, he must be working all hours right now. Even if one of the "film projects" is the Local Hero musical, that still could mean 2 film projects!!
