Simply Rare Rules and Guidelines Lasted Updated 9/19/10 The following Guidelines apply to all areas of Simply Rare, including, but not limited to the forums, website and forum blogs. This list is not intended to be all-inclusive, but rather a general set of guidelines. How warnings work. There are 3 types of warnings. Warning Notes : These are simply warnings. These do not raise or lower your warning percentage but are simply used for minor warnings or notes. Warning Increase : These warnings will increase your warning percentage by 10% per warning. Warning Decrease : These warnings will decrease your warning percentage by 10% per warning. How the warning system works. Zetaboards unfortunately does not have a very advanced warning system. Basically, we're stuck only being about to issue 1 type of warning at a set percentage. In our case, 1 warning = 10% Therefore, if you broke a rule that carries a 30% warning increase, you'd receive a total of 3 warnings. Because of this, it's important to understand that the number of warnings you have is irrelevant, only the percentage matters. We realize this can be confusing, so please PM a staff member if you are ever confused about your warning level. What kind of punishment do I receive at each level? 0% - You have no warnings. Good for you! 10% to 60% - Other then the warnings, none. 70% to 90% - Posts require moderator approval 100% + - Minimum of a temporary ban Additional types of punishments Ban (Temporary and Indefinite) : A ban means you can't access the forums or any features linked to them. Temporary bans last for a specific number of either days or hours. Indefinite bans typically last forever. Post Blocking : Post Blocking will remove the ability to post from your account. This can last for a number of hours, days or indefinitely. While post blocked, you'll still be able to access other features. Moderator Approval : Moderator Approval means that you're allowed to post, however, any posts you make must be approved by a staff member before they show up. This can last a number of hours, days or indefinitely. Postcount Reduction : Typically applies to spamming. If needed, your postcount will be reduced. Warning Questions and F.A.Q.S. I recieved a warning! What should I do? You should review the warning in question, as well as the reason supplied. If you're confused about what you were warned for, you should contact one of the staff members. What you shouldn't do is create any topics, posts or pms flaming the staff and/or other users. It's okay to be mad, it's not okay to throw a fit. This whole multiple warning thing is confusing, I don't understand what percentage I'm at at all. Remember, you can always check your warning percentage from your profile. Also, remember that only the percentage matters, not the number of warnings. If you're still confused, PM a staff member. How long do warnings stay on my profile? What about the percentage? Warnings will always stay on your profile. Whenever you receive a warning, it will include an expiration date on it. After that day, your percentage will be reduced. Zetaboards does not include a feature to automatically handle percentage reductions, therefore, while we do try to check for expired warnings it is ultimately your responsibility to keep track of your warnings and PM a staff member if your warning percentage needs to be reduced. Hey! My warning expired but my percentage didn't change! Zetaboards does not include a feature to automatically handle percentage reductions, therefore, while we do try to check for expired warnings, it is ultimately your responsibility to keep track of your warnings and PM a staff member if your warning percentage needs to be reduced. Hey! I didn't deserve to be warned! You've got a rouge mod on your hands! If you feel you received a warning in error, you should contact an Admin. Someone else broke the same rule I did but they received a higher/lower percentage then me. What gives? Warnings are handled on a case by case basis. Someone with an extensive history may receive a higher percentage. Additionally, percentages are sometimes reduced based on the context of the warning. Users should be focusing on their warnings, not the warnings of others. If you feel you're being warned unfairly harsh, or someone is being let off too easy, you should contact an Admin and discuss it with them. You said I should contact an Admin or staff member. How am I supposed to know who those people are? A full list of staff members can be found at the following location. http://s7.zetaboards.com/Simply_Rare/stats/staff/ Any questions regarding warnings should be sent to anyone in either the Admin or Moderator catagory. Simply Rare Writers are not part of the Moderation Team. Please do not contact them about warnings as there is nothing for them to do about them. I really think "X" rule needs to be altered. What should I do? You can either, A) Contact a staff member and discuss it with them, or you can post a topic in the Support / Suggestions board about it. Keep in mind that topics serving only to start a fight or flame the staff or anyone else will not be tolerated. Site Guidelines Remember, listed percentages are strictly guidelines. Actual percentages can vary depending on the specific incident. General Rules - Always read stickies. Several boards have special/additional/changed rules. Typically, those rules overrule then normal rules outlined here. Failure to read a sticky is not a valid reason to break the rules. Try to avoid necromancy. Necromancy is when someone posts in a thread that hasn't received any posts in a long time. Typically, unless it's still on the front page, anything that hasn't been posted in in over a week is considered old. Offensive Posting - Minimum 30% warning per violation Offensive posting includes foul language, posting graphic and/or offensive material, shock sites, porn, etc. While we do welcome an adult audience, we also welcome younger users as well. As such, this type of material is not allowed. Censor Bypassing - 0% first warning, minimum 10% after We do have a censor system in place. Altering words in any way, shape or form to bypass that censor is not allowed. Additionally, swearing is not allowed. - If a swear is not automatically censored, you must completely censor it out yourself. "The system didn't censor it" is not a valid excuse. If you feel that there's a word that should be censored but isn't, please PM an admin. Flaming - Minimum 20% per violation. Flaming is consider any direct or indirect insults at another user, person, place or thing. Flaming does nothing to contribute to the community and will not be tolerated. Period. -If it looks like a flame, it will be treated as one. "But it was sarcasm" or "I was just joking" are not valid excuses. Trolling - Minimum 20% per violation Trolling is posting in a that serves no other purpose but to start a fight and/or annoy other people. Trolling does not contibute to the community and will not be tolarated. If you can't post without being rude, don't post. If you're trying to pick a fight, take it somewhere else. Illegal Activities - Minimum 10% per violation Users are not allowed to create posts pertaining to anything illegal. This includes, but is not limited to, drug use, rom downloads, theft, assault, hacking, etc. Discussion of this kind is not desired here. Spamming / Disruptive Posting - Minimum 10% per violation Posts that are disruptive to the discussion are not allowed. Additionally, users should post in an effort to communicate, not just for the sake of posting. - Users should avoid using an excessive amount of BBCode in their posts. Posts violating this rule will be issued a warning and either be removed or edited down. - Users should avoid using image tags for large images. Additionally, images that stretch the screen should be avoided. In general, you should post a link to the image, not the image itself. - Users should avoid creating over-large signatures. In general, if your signature is larger then your posts, it's too large. Large signatures will be edited down. - Spamming the forums to increase your post count is not allowed. Yes, we have levels based on your post count, and yes, some of them require a lot of posts, however that is not an excuse to create numerous useless posts. Any user caught doing this will receive not only a warning, but will have their post count reduced by a minimum of double the spam posts they made. Advertising - Minimum 10% per violation Posts that solely exist for advertising something, be it a game, forum, product, whatever, are not allowed. Specific forums do have a relaxed advertising rule. Users are encouraged to contact a staff member to find out which forums these are. Failure to user Spoiler Tags - Minimum 10% per violation The forums come equiped with spoiler tags. If you're not sure if something is a spoiler, then either A) put it in spoiler tags, or ask a staff member first. "I didn't think it was a spoiler" isn't a valid excuse. Posting in Foreign Languages - Minimum 10% per violation At this time, Simply Rare is intended as an English forum, as such, posts should be written in English. If you would like to create a thread to talk in another language, please contact a staff member for permission first. Posting in other languages in your profile or signature is allowed, provided no other rules are violated. Failure to post in anything but English, except in specified threads/forums is not allowed. Please keep in mind, despite the length of the above list, most of the items carry a low warning percentage, therefore, don't stress if you break a rule by accident. Odds are you'll receive a small warning that will only be around for a short period of time. In general, we try to keep warnings small and try to be laid back, however, that does not mean we will allow people to walk all over us. Edited by TsukasaWM, Sep 19 2010, 06:15 PM.
