I read a study which suggests that CCTV doesn't work, and I'm guessing policing the internet highways works in a similar manner. It suggested that this mechanism simply sends people crazy or moves crime into other areas, thus often forcing criminals to become more resourceful. What would your policies be on reducing crime instead, particularly with regards to re-offending rates as I feel that these present the greatest danger to society. The criminal justice system doesn't work and the police could, on occasion, easily be accused of negligent use of the powers that are bestowed upon them. Those who are truly guilty are the ones who are likely to be able to withstand the forces of police, justice and corrections; but for many, I would think, the occasional skirmish with the law does allows them to re-align their path (stats might help here, don't have them ^o) )?????

Less powers would surely mean that there is less likelihood of these powers being abused, mis-used or completely disregarded, but I'm not sure what the alternative is? Do you feel that less control over the streets would make them safer, or perhaps that it would simply allow the police to focus more of their time of the real criminals instead of wasting time on mis-demenour cases. The victims of crime must also be taken into account and perhaps mis-demenour policing helps to prevent this; but then again, perhaps it simply serves to drive crime underground and does little to actually help victims; in fact serving, as it stands, to damage them even more. Perhaps the powers should still exist but should simply be used more carefully and be subject to stricter guidelines and controls, benefit vs. cost instead of the ususal financial policy here. Better systems of communication may be beneficial in all of this, and I feel that knowledge and understanding of basic ethical behaviour is often either manipulated (nobody will tell you that they saw me, you can't prove a thing), or simply disregarded; and that instead of watching people commit crimes, we should spend more money on trying to stop these crimes happening in the first place?

There is still a need to a justice system in all of this though, and surely these powers are intended to draw the guilty into the justice system, however much it may be considered to be failing - perhaps the core root of the problem? Education has to be a more important part of it, in the sense that it helps to deliver expectations of a better world, but both the prison and justice systems must remain a feature of life in a secure society. What would be your suggestions for reform in this area, because I have no doubt that the Criminal Justice system as it stands *doesn't work, and neither does our current system of policing.
