Okay, so you've done some adventures, gotten some experience, but you're not sure exactly how to level up your Pokémon, or even what leveling up does here in Sousei. It's pretty easy, actually. Every level takes 50 exp (or 500 words if you've been paying attention :l ). It's that simple. Type 500 words and BAM!, your Pokémon levels up, assuming you convert all of your word count to experience, that is.
What does this mean, exactly? Let's say you have a Starly at level 5. You do an adventure, and rack up 57 xp. You allot all the xp to your Starly, and it grows to level 6, and now only needs 43 xp to level up to 8. Easy enough, right? Let's say it's level 7, and you do a bigger session worth 105 xp. You level it up from 7 to 9, and have 5 xp left over, so now it'll take 45 xp to level it up to the next level. Not too difficult, right?
Now, in order to keep things from getting way too out of control, we are instilling a max xp gain of 500 per week. While you can go above and beyond the 5k word count, the extra words will go towards catching Pokémon, gaining PokeDollars, etc.
As for what leveling up does, it's essentially a rough estimation of how strong your Pokémon is. And for you fans of the Anime out there, evolved Pokémon are stronger than unevolved Pokémon, no questions asked. (However, your level 90 Growlithe would be stronger than a level 70 Scizor, for example.) Thus a Beedrill, a Venomoth, and a Pinsir are all about the same strength. Tactics and skill are also important as well, not simply raw power.
