Didn't Avelaer have a Greater Invisibility on? And it still hit him? That's some good luck for the demon... Or can it see through invisibility?

Oh right.. Is he still invisible now he's got an arrow sticking in him?

I mean the blood and the arrow tend to give the game away I guess, but without wanting to be too anal about what's essentially a game - should I change the Skafloc post?

Good point... To be honest the problem here was that I did the rolls about 2/3 months ago, and just totally missed out on the Invisibility Spell when I 'wrote them up'.

If it's not too much trouble to edit that would be cool, but I think I get the general thrust of the post anyway.

Well that's the battle over, albeit curtailed with less flair on my part than I'd probably have liked.

Ho hum.

Anyway the XP reward is 2363 each for this room. ;)

Right we'll move on when you're all ready, though patching up wounds and taking a few moments might be wise.

I've not specified who Llana's healed, only because I'm waiting to see who tarlyn approaches. I'll then take off the appropriate spells.

If the wall can be dismissed before she gets too far with everyone, well, we'll just say that she healed one more person's wounds. :

IF I am not mistaken you can either dispell the wall or cast disintegrate on it, right.

Um who put the wall there? I Must have read over that part. BEcause I will try to dismiss it if it wasn't one of us, if not see if there is some kind of exit to the room we can go through. Then I'll post ;)

Sorry was away today and busy with some things :)

Hi gang,

Can I get a D100 roll out of each of you?

If you don't have a D100 to hand there's a dice roller here;

Roll them bones.

Roll Results

You requested that 1 roll of a 100-sided die be rolled. The lowest die for each roll won't be counted.

Roll them bones ... your dice are

Roll 1: 68.

Tah dah!!

Quality! - If that was a MERP roll for *anything* the result would be - Skafloc trips on an unseen imaginary dead turtle, breaking both legs and falling on his blade taking a critical.

It may well have come to everyone’s attention that combat slows us down hugely, mostly my fault but occasionally other people have problems as well.

In an attempt to remedy that I’m going to be implementing a new system in our next combat encounter, that I hope will speed things up a little bit.

Firstly what I’ll do is post up the initiative list and show you from there.

In this example I’m using a party consisting of:

Dwarf Fighter = Controlled by Joe
Aasimar Paladin = Controlled by the DM
Drow Adept = Controlled by Phil
Elven Cleric = Controlled by Chris

Up against a Flind and a Gnoll, both of course under DM control.

So initiative;

- Initiative rolls -
Battle Dwarf gets initiative of 17.
Gnoll, Flind gets initiative of 10.
Elven Cleric gets initiative of 9.
Gnoll gets initiative of 8.
Drow Mage gets initiative of 7.
Aasimar Paladin gets initiative of 5.

Meaning that Joe goes first.

Now at this point all I want from Joe is an OOC post telling me what he plans to do in his turn.

Quote:

Ok then, assuming he can Battle Dwarf moves forwards to attack the Flind.

I then check the figures and respond in OOC with this;

Quote:

Ok, that hit for 5HP of damage, a pretty bad blow for the Flind.

Now as the DM I control the Flind, so I also now take his turn.

Quote:

Flind then retaliates for 7HP of damage.

It’s now Chris’ turn so he posts in OOC with this;

Quote:

I’ll use Cause Fear on the Gnoll.

I check the roll of the Gnoll and, in this case reply with;

Quote:

Well that worked, Gnoll failed his save and is scared and fleeing for the next 4 rounds, so that takes care of what he’s doing during his turn, which makes it Phil’s turn.

So now Phil gets to decide on his own action.

Quote:

Well I’ll toast the fleeing Gnoll I think, Burning Hands at the Gnoll before he gets out of range and warns the rest of the tribe.

I check that and then…

Quote:

Worked out fine, Gnoll is still running, but with 7HP less, and is looking close to death. Right, my turn now with my Paladin so he’s going to be attacking the Flind…

11HP from the Flind and now he’s unconscious and that’s the end of the round...

So the standings are;

Quote:

Battle Dwarf move action and attacks the Flind, does hefty damage. This hit is then returned with interest by the Gnoll, but the Dwarf has more HP and so shrugs it off with more ease.

Flind gets hit by the Dwarf but retaliates with a powerful blow of his own. Is then knocked out by the Paladin’s greatsword blow.

Elven Cleric casts Cause Fear on the Gnoll, which fails its save and flees, effect lasting for 4 rounds.

Gnoll Cause Fear makes it run away, it then gets burned by the Burning Hands of the Drow, badly injured by still running.

Drow Mage casts Burning Hands on the fleeing Gnoll, badly injuring it.

Aasimar Paladin Attacks the Flind with Greatsword, high damage roll knocking Flind into unconsciousness.

At this stage all of this has happened in the OOC, and should have taken only a few days all going to plan.

Now though that everyone knows what happened in the round everyone gets to take it into the story thread. In this way of doing it you post for you own attacks, including a description, but more than that you can also post your own reaction to what happens to your PC.

Eg Joe, who plays the Dwarf could write something like this;

Quote:

The Dwarf screamed a battlecry and drove towards the hyena-faced humanoid, his ancestral weapon held easily in front of him as he headed on, heedless of the danger. Driving the Flind’s shield to one side with his own the Dwarf freed up the space to thud his axe home into the monster’s side, and the creature stepped backwards, a look of pain crossing its face.

The pain though hadn’t been enough to prevent the Flind from retaliating, and this retaliation took the shape of a massive blow that clanged down onto his helmet, staggering him slightly. With a grunt he shook off the dazed feeling and then, hearing footsteps behind himself stepped to the side to allow the Paladin more room to wield his own blade.

As you can see this allows more freedom in terms of what you post in the story thread, and means you have a level of autonomy over the enemies that you didn’t have before. On a personal note it means that I won’t have to churn out massive posts at the end of every round as well, which can only help the game speed up.

Any questions? ;)

Is the portal keyed?

Is the portal safe?

If the portal is safe and keyed, is the key available to us?

Did Big V go through the portal recently?

Did he take the Crystal's piece with him?

Well, that's about all I can figure. If he went through without the crystal, there's no point in going after him of course. I'm not even sure we can survive over there. What are the conditions like there?

So thus far;

Is the portal keyed?

Is the portal safe?

If the portal is safe and keyed, is the key available to us? *possible*

Can we survive the environment this portal leads to?

Did Vareilmor pass through this portal in the past hour?

Did he go to the place we can currently see?

Did he take the shard of the Gatekeeper's Crystal with him?

Anyone else?

Are any fey'ri besides Fade still in Elvenport?

Should we go through the portal?

Are we in danger of an ambush in the next few hours?

Does Sarya or her allies know about the Mist-Master's quest?

My only question is, how are we getting back? If we can't find a convenient portal, that is. If you can assure Greg (not me) that we can shift between planes, he'll be for it. It's even fulfillment of his mission to destroy fey'ri.

Ok gang, round one;

Now the black is the gate,

The colour running in a line attatched to the gate is the crumbling wall.

The red is the fire.

The yellow the tent

The dark blue the Glabrez

The light blue, Karo and the other colour is the Death Giant.

Initiative rolls:

Fade gets initiative of 30.
Giant, Death gets initiative of 28.
Tarlyn gets initiative of 28.
Karosin Darkoff gets initiative of 26.
Kellindel gets initiative of 26.
Greg Smith, deathless gets initiative of 19.
Demon, Glabrezu gets initiative of 18.
Llana Arden gets initiative of 14.
Demon, Glabrezu gets initiative of 13.
Avelaer Lafesti gets initiative of 12.

So if you OOC me your actions following on we'll get this started. ;)

DC40 Str check, I don't think that's likely to work I'm afraid Tarlyn. :(

Avelaer is the strongest PC in the group and his STR is 18, and it's a real task especially as it's going to be under duress and there can't be any taking 10 or 20 for this.

Also in an unrelated note you've caught them flat footed. :)

Right everything is rolled up so if you could now post you combat actions in the game thread that would be peachy. ;)

Fade - Sneak attack against Glabrezu 2 - Does about 35 points of damage

Death Giant - Flat footed - Takes around 80hp of damage from Kellindel

Tarlyn - Casting prisimatic spray on Glabrezu 1 - rolls for electrical damage, strikes the demon, but Glabrezu have 999/Elec resistance so it's unharmed.

Karosin - Death attack and backstab against Glabrezu 1 - Does about 30hp damage and fails with Death Attack.

Kellindel - Full attack against Death Giant - Does about 80HP damage, with a critical hit.

Greg Smith - Haste on all - goes off without a hitch.

Glabrezu 1 - Flat footed -Survives the Spray with no damage and Karo's attack, still very healthy.

Llana Arden - Taking off and flying upwards - At present can still only really see smoke.

Glabrezu 2 - Flat footed - Gets horribly mauled by Fade and Avelaer, losing around 150Hp

Avelaer Lafesti - Full attack against Glabrezu 2 - Nails a critical and two more good hits on the demon, dropping it down into the low double figures.
