Could it be we beat the Aussies and lifted the cup?? No-one was more surprised than I was.. :o Fair enough it doesn't erase the painful memory of one of the worst ashes tours in history, but it at least restores some pride before the world cup. We're not a shite team, we just played that way, the leadership of Super Freddie was awful, though you had to blame DF for that too. He clearly needed support he wasn't getting. Vaughan injured again though.. not good. Even though we beat the Aussies with Super Freddie as captain, he was wobbly, his game's key to a good England performance, and it's far from right when the visible strain of the captaincy weighs on his shoulders, as with so many other captains of England in the past. Vaughan seems to manage it so well, which is why he's so key in my opinion. Anyway, pontificating aside, we won something! Hurray! |

Sometimes you just have to burn the card fate dealt you.

I find myself torn on the whole issue, because yes we won and that's great, but I have a horrible feeling that there's going to be a lot of 'ha! Told you we were on the right track and that there's nothing at all wrong with the set up!" Coming out of this... Still we did win, and did it without our most destructive batsman, and that has to count for something! Now if we could only sort out the football... |

Up and down like a mad rollercoaster. That's the life of an English cricket fan... Trott! What a revelation! High pressure game, first international test (that happens to also be the deciding test in an ashes series) and he gets a ton. How to make a name for yourself eh? Ravi Bopara must be watching this and feeling a little sick. Is it a done deal now? Well if we were anyone else I'd say yes, but as it's England, I wouldn't like to say, we might start chucking balls so bad the Aussies rack up 600.. :ph43r:  |

I have to admit that I didn't actually see the end of it, because I was watching the football, but we seem to have managed to eak out the best from a fairly limited talent pool. I guess that Collingwood probably goes when Pietersen comes back? |

..and over the last few months more massive highs. And lows. Proper lows. And over the last few days it hasn't been so bad. Is there anything less draining than being an English cricket fan? Top team in the world one minute, thrashed by Pakistan the next, then putting up a decent go of it in the one day series - though being a test man myself I dismiss one day series normally.. |
