But would anyone be interested in a Dark Heresy game? Basically, it's scifi, set in the WH40k universe, and is fairly adult themed (not like, adult as in pervy, just adult as in dark and horrible).

I've had it in my head for a while now, I like the rules (similar to the WHFRP rules) and I like the premise of a disparate bunch of people working for an inquisitor searching for traitors, heretics, cults and enemies of the Emperor within the Imperium. I also like the feel of the setting, it's dark and gothic and amoral, the 'good guys' stemming the tide of destruction and very much without moral restraint, there's no good and evil, only for the Emperor and against the Emperor.

There's a lot of background material out there for those who aren't familiar, and again the rules might be a pain if no-one knows them apart from me, but they aren't too complicated, and significant help would be given during character creation..

Would anyone be interested?

(even if everyone is - and they won't be - I'm not guaranteeing anything!)

Well I would be, I'm ever eager to get my 'morally dubious' funk on. ;)

Yeah, you could even be a priest!

Though to be honest it'd be more of a Tomas de Torquemada type of priest, rather than the happy clappy sort.. :D

Tempting...really tempting, but unfortunately, real life is kicking my ass more than I'd like it to and I don't want to commit and not be able to follow through.

If this isn't happening for a few months, then I'd be delighted.

Probably need one more to make it viable..

A bit more information about characters might be useful for those who aren't too familiar. Humans only, but it's a very wide range of career backgrounds. The Inquisition drafts personnel from all parts of the Imperium to aid in it's investigations, sometimes with their approval, sometimes not - to refuse would be to invite suspicion however, and no-one wants that. Answering only to their Inquisition, successful teams often end up with talented individuals being sponsored by their Inquisitor to join the ranks of the Inquisition itself - one of the most powerful positions in the Imperium, able to call on legions of troops, overrule system governors with few out of their reach. The only people they have to fear are other Inquisitors...

The basic career paths all have their own options, and are fairly easy to manipulate, but once you've chosen their background, you're stuck with it. The basic categories are;

Adept: Knowledgeable scribes, scholars and keepers of arcane knowledge from the ranks of Imperial Administration - but not as boring as they sound..!

Arbitrators: Investigators and lawmen, from a range of worlds, from civilised urban settings, to dangerous wild west style marshal types. Seconded to the Inquisition for obvious reasons.

Assassins: Skilled killers, usually from the ranks of the Imperiums own sanctioned assassins guild. Usually from a long established assassin family.

Cleric: Devout followers of the Divine Emperor. Priests, diplomats and leaders of men. But also potentially burners of heretics etc..

Imperial Guardsmen: Warriors and soldiers, standard muscle drafted from the ranks of the regular army for various reasons. Can be weapons specialists, meat shields, officers etc

Imperial Psykers: Practitioners of the psychic arts, sanctioned and heavily monitored by the authorities to prevent them becoming prey to the things that dwell in the warp, and the lure of chaos. The next stage of human evolution to some, but an easily exploited gateway into the world for demonic possession if too weak to resist. Most psykers are hunted down for this reason and 'fed' to the emperor on his golden throne, few are deemed strong enough to live, all of them that survive legally are under direct Imperial control.

Scum: Thieves, outlaws and well, scum. Usually drafted, either as an alternative to life on a penal planet or execution. Useful for infiltrating the seedier end of Imperial society.

Tech-Priests: Keepers of technology, and followers of the machine cult. These guys end up less human as they 'augment' themselves, replacing their human parts with useful bionics.

I'm sure that it will be great, but I'm not familiar with rules and setting and don't have time to learn them now. I play only classic D&D 3.5 edition. Good luck with it though. ;)

I've not seen 4e yet. What's it like?

I'd rather go back to 2e

2 was good for me. Life was simpler then, less rules, more roleplay!

The books for 4e only come out this Friday; we should hopefully get our set by Monday. *knocks desperately on wood*

And apparently it's supposed to be very streamlined and going back to basics; one guy said it only took him ten minutes to make a character. God, do I miss those days!

I don't really like 4th edition...I don't like changes. My brother tried to make me change my mind 6 months now, but he didn't make it! I'm sentimental I love things as they are! :P

And I doubt you need only 10 min to make a character. If you get a fighter you have to look all the talents, maneuvers to decide what get. Same with wizards you have to choose your spells/day /encounter and /round!

It sounds like a lot of fun. THE EMPEROR DRIVES MY BLADE. Now where did I put my Codex... BLESS THE MIND TOO SMALL FOR DOUBT Ah, there.. on the Storm Bolter.
We should start at once, for heresy grows from idleness.

I think we might be getting critical mass for this... :ph43r:

A SMALL MIND IS A TIDY MIND

Anyone at all apart from me got the rules? Otherwise, I'm going to be doing a lot of typing.. though to be honest, it's not that hard. Thank god..

Knowledge is power, guard it well. :P

Yep, I got the rules, thank the Emperor...

Btw, here's a link to a nice character creation program:
http://www.freewebs.com/slaunyeh/Dark%20Heresy%20Chargen.zip
This way we can create background stories while you could roll and copy-paste stats in under 5 mins.

Not that we would cheat otherwise. Never. My former space marine turned psyker turned assasin/mech priest could not possibly be too powerful.

Nice one - I'll check it out when I get home, then start putting together some sort of plan..

Any core character type available, starting from the beginning. The world will be as it is, but with a few tweaks, because I prefer things Rogue Trader old skool. Nothin' anyone would notice though. Aside from Genestealer being purple.

Not that you're likely to run into any Genestealers in your investigations. That'd be preposterous.

Slightly deadly too. :ph43r:

It's very easy Pam. All you have to know is that if someone disagrees with you, he's most likely a heretic and should be cleansed in the fire of Emperor's inquisition. And if someone agrees with you but you don't like him, he's most likely a heretic only with a very good cover story.

Also, if you see something purple*, run as fast as you can and try to be faster than at least one person in your team.

*or black, wearing a power armor, chanting "Blood for blood god"
*or having a laughing face painted on his helm
*or not having an average number of limbs
*or undead

Flying human skulls with cybernetic implants are pretty much ok, though.

See ? Easy.

Very good advice.

I love the setting, and the fact that you're working for the inquisition, reminds me of the bad guys from Nemesis the Warlock.

"Be PURE!"

"Be VIGILANT!"

"BEHAVE!"
