Hey ho everyone, now that I'm free from DMing Ravenloft, I am toying with the idea of burdening myself with another game. :P It'll be a first level 4e game set in the modern FR in the country of Akanûl. Let me know if you're interested here. |

Where's that? Is that first level so we can figure out how the rules work without the burden of a sackload of abilities? Character restrictions? |

Akanûl was the country which most intrigued me in the FRCG. It's an Abeir country which more or less fell on top of western Chessenta. It's along the Sea of Fallen Stars and the story will begin in the capital, Airspur, which is on the coast. I have chosen first level so we can indeed feel our way around the new rules. It also gives us an excuse not to worry about past exploits in an unfamiliar part of the world. No character restrictions except the usual "no evil". However a couple of warnings: • Dragonborn are not popular there as possible descendants of Tymanther, an enemy country which has been carried over to Toril. If anyone is going to play one, they'd better be damned charismatic and pleasant in the face of rudeness and prejudice because they'll end up exiled, imprisoned or dead. I strongly discourage it but leave it to your ability to persuade me otherwise. • Religion has made little ground here. Abeirans don’t really know the difference between gods and primordials. Some might worship out of curiosity but nobody has yet been allowed to set up a large temple to anybody here. The government is a bit suspicious in that they think all religions may be cults and try to encourage people to break the law in the name of their beliefs, but there is no persecution. This is not to discourage religious types (ME?!) but to warn that your character is in a setting apathetic (but not hostile) to them. Genasi are the most populous (and powerful) race in the region; half-orcs have an unusually large presence there. Otherwise any race at all - devas, shapeshifters, goliaths - it's an unusual place so they're open to a lot of oddness and don't have Faerun's prejudices (only their own native Abeiran ones!). Any class as well, both from the books and DDI. I'd prefer characters to come from there. Your character's parents, of course, may have travelled here from elsewhere. :P Indeed, artists and trade are very big, so a good background for family history. If you have the new FRPG, there's ideas as to native backgrounds there. |

Alhoon, brother of Van here. Interested but I don't have FRCG. :( Can I play or I need to invest good money to buy it? I'm mainly interested in wizard but as I said I have no knowledge about this place we will play at. So I'm actually think on getting a Deva recently incarnated there. |

Hi alhoon and welcome! Don't worry about not having the FRCG; the less you know, the easier for me. :P Here's a link that describes Akanul, enough to give you a vague idea of the place. I'll try to find other links to give you all a bare bones background, and if you have questions, don't be shy to post them here. I also plan to write a post or two to give you all an idea of the history that your characters would be aware of. I have no problem with either mages or devas (personally I'd love to play a deva at some point - they and revenants are my idea of cool!). If you want a devic mage, no problem. :) |

I've got it.. I forgot, I've got the FRCG and FRPG. Yeah I know, I'll have a read and think about whether I want to join. I have to be honest, I like the new stuff even though I naturally have more fondness for the old stuff I'm more familiar with (ie 2nd ed!), though I'm not mad keen on the Genasi, so it's unlikely to be one of those, even if it it set in a Genasi nation.. |

Hey, you know I play loose with the rules and hate doing combat. I love fluff, not crunch! :P I honestly don't care if people want to be genasi or not; it's a big city and portrayed as quite cosmopolitan, so everyone (well, except dragonborn) is going to be treated decently there. I figured most of those playing (including Jon) are likely not to. My knowledge of the Realms before this really goes back to the Grey Box (1e) and the stuff I read online when I made up characters or ran that Scornubel game briefly. I loved 2e as an edition but I didn't really own much of anything FR-related. I had a boxed set for Waterdeep and Myth Drannor which I never played with , and a book on the gods which I adored (and have sadly left behind somewhere in Canada). |

You could download a load of out of print 2ed stuff quite legally from the wizards website at one time. Not sure if you still can. Was a strange and eclectic collection of things, but some interesting FR stuff made it on there. It'd be so out of date now though, especially with the 4e changes, but it's the stuff I was into, when I was at school..! Though to be most honest, it was Spelljammer (cos I like pirates, and you could pick and choose from any of the settings) and the Dragonlance books I was most into. Girls and alcohol kind of killed the hobby off for me, took a more settled life and BG2 for me to make a return to the fold. lol |

Thanks for reminding me about that site! The link is here. I'm not sure if any of it applies to the region we're in but I'll let you all know. :D I bought the books and stuff but used it to plunder for ideas.I mainly did a homebrew version of D&D for years but BG2 brought me back to RPing 'mainstream' online. The only Spelljammer game I played was Pace's...On the bright side, we DID get to meet you through it. |

Heh... I was with my sis and she told me "4E, 1st level" I jumped up. As I have mentioned elsewhere... I was turned down from playing 4th. :( I prefer 3rd but I also like 4th. And you're rules-light so what remains is the fairy-tale heroic style of 4E coupled with the "naive & innocent" hero of 1st level. |

I saw your post at the Cafe about that - my condolences! Oh and you don't have to be naive and innocent, believe me. You can be hungry for fame and fortune, the reluctant hero, or the civil-rights activist/revolutionary if you're a half-orc. Or anyone non-genasi for that matter. :P |

They may be naive about what's involved in getting their goals but some characters really look like babes in the woods, like Molly (my Ravenloft character). :D EDIT: I've started a forum for the coming game, so any questions related to the characters etc can be put there. Merci! |

I could never forget.... I haven't heard anything about Pace since he started that board of his with Lucy and a couple of others. That was quite a while ago and it's probably disappeared by now. Not even sure if it was still called the Crossroads (Cross Roads?) Inn at the time. That is indeed where we met or were you at Lady Alustriel/Mydian's board? Or possibly that BG2 mod board that got split in half? Hell, I don't even remember what that was called anymore... |

Well I was at the BG2 board first.. ended up at Pace's board, not sure which came first but I was definitely at the BG2 board before Pace and Lucy's. Didn't Pace become a truck driver and abandon the board for a while? I remember some odd livejournal posts, but then it went quiet... all very strange eh? It was a long time ago, crikey I've been on this board a long time, or so it feels. The Ravenloft game's been going on since Pace's board hasn't it? That's where it started I'm sure. |

I was at the BG2 board first, then went to Lady Alustriel's board in 2003 (February?) where Pace also went. He and LA started RP games on there, which were my first introduction to PbP. Pace started his own board later in the summer; Jon and I went to his board in November and Jon started the Ravenloft game just around Christmas. So Ravenloft has now been going on 6 1/2 years. This board got started after Laura's board The Dreaming suddenly died in 2006. I'd started copying threads after a previous crash at one of Pace's boards so if I lost anything, it wasn't much. I think I was in Canada at the time, sorting out my first visa, so the game was definitely on hold then. :P I'd forgotten, Cas, about Pace becoming a truck driver! I think it was because he was spending so much time on the road (or so I assumed) that his last board began to die but I didn't know he had a LJ. I hope he is well. Wasn't that BG2 board called Spellwars? Or was the name of one of the two boards it became when the mod-makers broke up into two camps? They had the Kelsey mod and my favourite, Dungeon-Be-Gone! Couldn't have played BG2 as often as I did without that. |

I don't know what happened at the BG2 board, but I know it was like open hostility between a bunch of them that was spilling over into every thread. Killed it off for me. I forgot Laura's board, yes, that came before this one didn't it. Pace didn't keep the LJ for long, gave it up before you or I did. Few posts about 'truckin' and I think that was it. Haven't been on to look for so long I'm not even sure what my password is anymore.. I much prefer Facebook, no effort required there. Dungeon-be-gone was an essential for any repeat game of BG2. Nobody needs to do that more than once.. though I had played it though so many times I'm not even sure I could put a figure on it. |

This incarnation of the board went out of use before Ravenloft started. It moved to an identical looking board though, Pace copied the content across so you might not remember it happening. Probably some posts in the news section with the address, though it doesn't exist anymore. |

As you saw, I brought mine back - I'd forgotten about this one and I'd loved it too. :) I just emailed Pace at the addie he had on that board; figure it wouldn't hurt to see that he's doing okay assuming the addie still exists, of course. I started on Spellwar's thats where i first met Seifer and Mistress E and Silverose, and from there i moved to Crossroads...then i joined Mydian's board Deathwyrm Inn. Spellwars is now Spellhold Studios and thats where Mistress E keeps her Fade mod. Deathwyrm was great then it just started dying it is now just over 2 years gone and from that i came here to this one. There was another board i joined due to Silvie having a game there but her ill health sadly meant the game had to be disbanded; such is life :( I think it was somewhere between Spellwars and Crossroads that i met Cas, you and Eo...Pam if my memory is correct... PS: I can also log into Pace's old board... :D |

I don't think I played any games with Seifer and Silverose. I recall Seifer being on Pace's board at some point and Silverose on Myd's but that's about it. I haven't heard from Mistress E in eons but I heard about the baby. :) |
