REVAN, hero of the Mandalorian Wars and Dark Lord of the Sith, returned to the Light Side of the Force and aided the Republic in defeating his former Empire. Afterwards, he disappeared into the Unknown Regions. MEETRA SURIK, also known as THE JEDI EXILE, restored her own connection to the Force and after defeating Revan's Sith legacy, attempted to locate the lost Jedi. Unbeknownst to Surik and the rest of the Galaxy, Revan had been kidnapped by a member of the True Sith - survivors of the Sith civilization's destruction at the end of the Great Hyperspace War. Surik came to his rescue, but unfortunately both were betrayed an ally within the Sith when they tried to confront the Emperor. Meetra lost her life, and Revan became a captive of the Sith Emperor. 300 years later, the Empire invaded the Republic in a devastating war and nearly conquered the Galaxy. Revan eventually escaped when Surik's specter guided a new generation of heroes to his rescue, even their betrayer helped another champion defeat the Emperor - for the time being.

This, however, is not that tale. In this story, Revan resumed his position as Dark Lord, with Surik and her apprentices joining him and Bastila Shan in the Unknown Regions. After the defeat of the rebellious Sith Triumvate, they disappeared again. Not long after, the Republic's rebuilding suddenly sped up and it became more powerful than ever. It was brought to the attention of the Senate and the populace that the Sith still existed. The military was given a considerable amount of power to deal with this resurgent threat. Commands were given to the veterans of all the past wars, including even those who had previously fought against the Republic. The Mandalorians were granted amnesty and were rearmed, ostensibly to fight for the Republic's armies. Many citizens and organizations were found to have been in league with the Sith, despite their protests to the contrary. The gigantic Czerka Corporation was found to have been one of the worst offenders and was annihilated to the last employee, liberating many of their enslaved primitive worlds and earning the aid of their inhabitants. The Exchange criminal syndicate was also accused and quickly driven into hiding, while the Hutt cartels wasted no time betraying each other to earn amnesty. The onslaught against the rediscovered Sith was swift but brutal, laying waste to the Sith-occupied planets. The Dark Lords were all wiped out, however, the Republic showed surprising leniency to the surviving pureblood and hybrid Sith. The military command instead opted to forcibly relocate the Massassi and Kissai castes to other worlds, spreading them across the Galaxy. The citizens of the Republic rejoiced at the victory, but the campaigns did not end there. Many worlds outside the Republic were discovered to have been aiding the Sith, and both the military and the Senate insisted the need to secure these planets to prevent the Sith from ever rising again. Though the populace was becoming war-weary, no one wanted to risk repeating all the past wars that the Sith were now known to have caused. So the Republic continued, and no one was able to stand against it. Even the militarily powerful, newly-discovered Chiss could not hold back the tide.

The Republic's newfound efficiency and raw power was unexplainable. After a few decades, it had outright annexed or installed puppets in nearly every government in the known Galaxy. And soon after the outside threats were quelled, inside ones were focused on. Unrest began to grow among the population, to which the galactic government responded with increasing amounts of oppression. The Jedi Order was caught in the middle of this, with individual Jedi falling on either side of the conflict. It was around this time that one Zabrak Jedi Guardian, Bao-Dur, came forward and told the Galaxy the truth. He produced incontrovertible evidence that Revan and Surik had returned to the Republic as Sith, and were in fact controlling it. All the recent wars had been lies fabricated by them to take complete control of the entire Galaxy. Their New Sith had already infiltrated the governments of the belligerents and played both sides to further their cause. They had used the Republic to take control of the remaining Sith and other Dark Side forces and were slowly dominating the upper echelons of key societies. This sparked a full blown civil war that tore the galaxy asunder. At its finish, the Republic and the rest of the Galaxy were reclaimed from the Sith, but Revan and Surik were nowhere to be found...

It is 3797 BBY, 153 years after Revan and Surik's rise to power. Even after well over a century, old wounds still have not healed. Quite a bit of the territory gained was ceded back, a few governments going so far as to cut off all diplomatic ties. Anti-Republic groups still continue their fight, never forgetting the suffering they endured and attributing the blame beyond the Sith to all of the Republic. Mistrust over the power wielded by such a centralized government in the hands of tyrants has caused the Republic's military to splinter into mostly planetary militia and the training of the core forces to stagnate. The gap in professionalism has been filled by independent entities, some legal contractors and some clearly not. The Hutts has slowly recovered but their swift capitulation left them severly lacking for respect. The Exchange has quietly returned but they now face rivals of increasing ferocity. The vacuum left by Czerka has been filled by smaller corporations of even more questionable morality, including Artuga, Hadian, and the largest, Kower Industries - controlled by the most powerful family in the Republic. The Mandalorians occupy a not-so-clear niche in the new society, the reformed clans operating en masse often as mercenaries or security and settling on new worlds. The Jedi's reputation was tarnished in the civil war, many coming to view them as agitators or oppressors. And the Sith who have caused so much pain and violence are known to still be out there, somewhere. Wild rumors always abound as to whatever new plot they are hatching, though for once the rumors are starting to sound believable....

Welcome to Star Wars Lost Hope. Note this is an alternate timeline, What If scenario based on Knights of the Old Republic 1 & 2. This does borrow slightly from Old Republic (mostly canon), but in general will focus on the Dark Side endings of the previous games and their repercussions. A few key characters from The Old Republic may be introduced though, and eventually the technology will catch up to era of the Treaty of Coruscant, but for all intents and purposes the story will take a drastic turn from that game. Also note that though Star Wars is the background for this forum, I will most of the time draw on other media to develop the story. Overall, creating a narrative is the primary purpose of this RP with the endgoal being a "Holy Mother of God, what just happened?!" reaction from the audience. Focus will be on individual stories, Special Forces warfare and the former's connection to the world at large.

Addendum:
The Dark Side endings for both KotOR I & II were not an accident in this alternate timeline. They are a the direct result of an earlier break in history, a culmination of plotting by some of the earliest darksiders. Some the original Dark Jedi, with help from an unknown source, were able to combine themselves into one dark being, a personification of the realm of Chaos where their power flows from.

This spirit collected others, the failed Dark Jedi and Sith who either died or were exiled after defeats by the forces of light. The existence this being somehow disrupted the Shatterpoints that caused Revan and the Exile to fall again, and when it combined with them it took on new purpose.

Now, all player characters discover that they were "spawned" by this being, Darth Kaos, by having Chaos energies transferred into their midichlorians upon their birth. The transfer was hereditary for some, and this process has gone on since the disappearance of Revan almost 100 years ago. Worse, many of the past "Chaospawn" have risen to positions of power throughout the galaxy, working for Kaos' agenda or their own.

All player characters face a choice: Fight the darkness or succumb to it in the end.
