The Battle of Rattatak was one of the opening battles of the Galactic War. Despite that, it is unknown to most galactic denizens and those that do regard it as a minor engagement compared to what followed. Still, the events at Rattatak led to the outcome of the conflict and set the tone for the war.

Many things are still not clear about the battle. The regime of dictator Harko seemed totally unprepared for any kind of attack, despite having skirmished with Ssi-Ruuvi scouts for months prior. It has been deduced that Harko was preoccupied with political concerns, namely finding a way to dispose of his the surviving heir of the warlord he had disposed of in his own coup, having been hampered by public opinion and legal concerns new to the Rattataki. Cusi, the final son of the former ruling family, had long been removed from the politics of his family and was loved by the warrior class. Harko had him arrested and enslaved on a technicality and forced him to fight as a gladiator.

Cusui survived every battle, frustrating Harko. Then an anonymous posting on the Holonet brought a slew of desperate mercenaries and Harko saw an opportunity. However, this brought the seeds of his destruction as while he obsessively observed the fights a massive invasion force descended on Rattatak. He gave the surviving gladiators their freedom in exchange for protecting him, his final mistake - among the gladiators were Sith agents. They captured Harko and turned him over to the Ssi-Ruuvi, and Cusui was appointed their representative after convincing the remaining Rattataki to surrender. With these warriors at their beck and call, the Ssi-Ruuvi were able to engage the Republic and drag their forces away from other fronts.
