In English, we've finished studying the truly amazing book, "The Lord of the Flies" by William Golding. It reveals the savage and sadistic nature of human beings when they are put in an environment where there is no government or simply a solid system of authority. It is a very powerful story that is moving, gripping, and has an incredible insight to human nature. If you haven't read it already (which I'm sure most of you have by now), then I'd definitely recommend it. If you've already read it, post your thoughts about this spectacular story. |

Nope, haven't read it. I think I heard of it once, though. Yeah, human nature is a quite disturbing thing. Luckily, we have government and other forms of authority even though we may not like it at times they have been given their power to govern for a reason. That reason is to protect us from ourselves, I suppose. Fortunately for me, I'm not a normal human being and have a relatively harmless but somewhat weird nature. ^_^   By the way, could you explain the title (I think I get it but I want to be sure) and would you like to tell us some more about the book ? |

Uh, I haven't read it either. I have heard of it though. I remember one of my friends in high school reading it for one of his classes, but I didn't have to read it and was required to read something else instead. I'm sure it's interesting, but I don't know if I'll ever read it now, seeing as how I'm not too big of a book worm. |

I am a book worm, (when I have time to be one) but I'm very picky on my reading material. Just like I'm purdy picky with a lot of things. |

I know this should probably be in the Big Screen, but it's on topic with this thread. There are also two movies of "The Lord of the Flies". First, there was the version made around 1963 or so (I don't know the exact date). It's probably the most accurate, but not incredibly thrilling. The 1990 version is less accurate, but is a better watch. My advice is to read the book first, though. As you know, the movie is never dead on with the story. Personally, I loved the 1990 version. It's got a pretty darn good soundtrack, and it really shows the savage nature of the marooned boys in graphic detail at some points. Watch it whenever you can (but read the book first). |
