Chapter IX : The Final Duel For several moments the two combatants remain there, grinding their blades together as they stare into each other's eyes. Then at last, Luken drives forward and starts attacking. Leonadus easily blocks every strike and drives Luken back. "Oh come now, Luken. Your grandmother taught you better than this. Even she would put up a better fight than you are." Luken charges forward and unleashes his anger in a flurry of swift attacks. Leonadus is driven back a few paces, but he still matches Luken's every move with very little effort. "That was better. Perhaps this battle won't be as boring as I had first thought. You fare rather well now offensive wise, but how are you on the defensive ?" Leonadus' blade gleams with fire as he strikes fast and strong. Luken manages to parry many blows with his sword and a few with his staff. Never does the dragon's blade come near its mark as Luken displays his true fighting prowess and his elegant manner of sword mastery. "Excellent," Leonadus proclaims "that was most exhilirating, but keep in mind that throughout the entire time you have been in my kingdom, your pathetic life has been in my hands. I could have then and still can end your life whenever I choose, but it is a rare chance that I meet someone foolish enough to challenge me who is also a decent swordsman. Therefore, I will only reveal my true strength a little at a time in order to savor the experience." "You're over confident," Luken replies. "Over confident ?!" Leonadus shrieks. "Ha, I could never be confident enough in accordance to my power !" Their blades lock again, and then each demonstrates and equal balance of offensive and defensive strength. Then Leonadus breathes fire out in all directions and Luken leaps up onto one of the curtains. Leonadus sends a flame to rising up from the bottom of the curtain, but Luken swings down and right into the dragon with a flying kick. Leonadus is thrown off his feet but Luken soon joins him on the floor when Leonadus sweeps his tail and trips him. Leonadus leaps onto him with his blade but Luken brings his sword up in time to block the assault. Luken kicks Leonadus off of him and they both get up and continue to fight furiously. As the duel continues, the sky begins to grow dark even though it is around noon. A storm brews above Oran Armon. Thunder rumbles and lightning flashes as the duelists battle throughout the fortress. Eventually they find themselves fighting on top of the highest tower of Oran Armon. "Your end is near," snarls Leonadus as lightning is sent from his claws to Luken, but the bolt falls short and dissipates in the air. The white crystal on Leonadus' staff glows with a brilliant white light as does the green gem in the hilt of his sword. Leonadus is startled by this, but then he quickly resolves to hold nothing back. He unleashes the power of every element on Luken, but all attacks fail. He uses his wings to create powerful gusts of wind, but Luken stands firm. He chills the air around him enough to freeze mercury, but Luken is not affected. He emits the same horrible screech that had deafened Jarlath Davalynn, but Luken hears nothing. He commands vines to wrap around Luken, but they quickly loosen their grip and sink back into the ground. Leonadus attacks Luken with the power of fire, water, earth, wind, ice, sound, electricity, flora, metal, and light. Every blast does nothing, and Luken is now surrounded in a sphere of light radiating from his staff. "Very well then, if the elements have no affect on you, then I will resort to the ultimate power of Chaos Control !" cries Leonadus as he vanishes in a flash of blue light. Time seems to stop then for both Luken and Leonadus. Luken then sees for an insant the image of Leonadus coming towards him with his sword. Luken raises his blade in a flash as Leonadus appears before him. Their swords clash with a deafening clang. "Impossible ! How could you have guarded against that ?!" Leonadus cries in confusion. He teleports again, this time he appears behind Luken but again Luken saw a faint image of Leonadus as he attacked and swung his staff behind him in time to parry the attack. Leonadus is thrown on his back, "I do not understand you, Luken. There is obviously more to you than meets the eye if you have the skill to predict my movements at twice the speed of light." He then glances at Luken's sword and sees the green gem is almost like a flame of green light. "So, there is more to the sword of Lunn than its blade. Without a doubt, the Chaos Emerald embedded in the hilt is the reason for your continued existence." A fire lights in Leonadus' eyes and he twitches with anger. Suddenly, the dragon himself begins to change. His blue scales become a deep red and he green eyes are orange as a flame. Even his clothes change shape, texture, and color, from shining, gold an platinum fabric to black and copper armor. Then, after several more failed attacks, the dragon glows red and unleashes a powerful assault. "Chaos Blast ! !" The pearl fortress trembles at the destructive force that erupts from Leonadus' being, yet still Luken stands before him unharmed. Leonadus roars in fury. "You will die if doing so requires that I rip apart the very fabric of time and space ! ! !" Leonadus holds up on hand and a portal to another zone begins to appear. Lightning flashes out from inside the portal that is wreathed in green flame. "If I cannot destroy you here, then I will watch you endure a fate worse than death there ! Behold the Zone of Silence, your new home ! !" The portal starts sucking things into it and Luken is pulled towards it. "I don't think so !" cries Luken as he charges at Leonadus again. They duel on the collapsing fortress while the portal grows behind them. A bolt of lightning comes between them and knocks them away from each other. The portal begins tearing away at the structure of the fortress, pulling it into the zone. Luken drives his sword into a that is still standing firm. It holds fast, but Leonadus is frantically searching for something to hold onto. He finally grabs Luken's arm, digging into his skin with his sharp claws. "Aaah !" Luken screams in pain. The two stare at each other one more time before Luken thrusts his staff into Leonadus' stomach and the fortress collapses. The crack in the wall where Luken's blade was fastened widens as the wall breaks apart. Luken squeezes through the crevasse and finds himself on a balcony on the outside of the crumbling castle. He can see Ashlan approaching, but he has no time to wait on the Pasha. He leaps as far as he can away from the castle just as it falls to ruin. He lands on his feet on the ground just as Ashlan reaches him. "Aaaarrgh ! !" he flinches as the pain enters his leg. He sighs and looks up at Ashlan, "Sometimes I wish cats didn't always land on their feet." He laughs and the Pasha nudges him with his nose. The portal has vanished and all that can be seen of is the rubble of Oran Armon. Luken gives another sigh of relief and turns his eyes away toward the way out of the valley. |

Chapter X : Another Land Free Luken rides on out of the canyon. As he passes by he sees Machiko and his warriors staring in wonder at the ruin of Oran Armon. They do not attack him, neither do they say a word. Eventually Luken returns to Oren Merton and receives a hero's welcome. He is praised and thanked by everyone in the town. Eventually Machiko and his warriors also come to do the same, for though they were loyal to Leonadus, they had wished that he could be overthrown. Many began to ask Luken what they thought had become of the dragon. "I believe that Leonadus was either buried in the rubble of his fortress, or imprisoned in the Zone of Silence. It's hard to be sure which is true, but I do not expect he shall soon return." Then they began to wonder what they should now do. They now had no ruler so who was goingto govern the land. In their confusion they offered the dragon's lordship to Luken. "I didn't come here to take control of Dragon Kingdom, but to bring freedom to it. I often doubted that I had the strength to complete that task, yet somehow I always felt it was possible. But I don't know anything about ruling a country. I suggest you elect a governor or a governing council and renew your ties to the Kingdom of Acorn." And so, in the weeks ahead, elections were held and a council was organized to govern the land. An ambassador was to be sent to Mobotropolis in a few weeks and Luken resolved to return there with the ambassador, whoever it would be. Although he felt Dragon Kingdom was now his home, he first wished to revisit the land where he was born. |

Epilogue : The Return The sun now rose in the east and it had been almost three months since anything was seen of Leonadus. Luken was sleeping in at the house that had been built for him in Oren Merton when somebody came to the door. He crawled to the door and rose up to open it. "Sharry ? What are you doing here so early ?" he asks Sharai Davalynn who is standing at his door. "Well, I thought that you wished to return to the Kingdom of Acorn with the ambassador that was going to be sent there. So let's go," she says. "What ? Wait, you're the ambassador ?" he asks in suprise. "Yep, it would have been my father since he knows so much about the history of this country, but since he's not able I'm the next choice. I know a lot about our land and they will want to hear all that I know in the Kingdom of Acorn if the two lands are to become allies again. Also," she hesitated "I didn't want you to leave, so I offered to go so that I could come with you." she says and Luken smiles and lowers his head. Sharai leaves while Luken gets ready and then he meets her on the green fields on the outskirts of the town. She standing there waiting in what seems to be the middle of nowhere. When he gets there he asks her why they're waiting here. She replies "They're sending an aircraft to take us to Mobotropolis, and this is where they'll land. I believe it's supposed to be a large, new plane recently built. I can't wait to fly, I never have before." "Fly ?!" Luken shouts worriedly "I have, and I'm not so sure I would've come if I had known that !" he says nervously as he remembers his sickening journey aboard the G.U.N. helicopter. "Oh come on, Luke. Supposedly they're sending their absolute best pilot to transport us there. I'm sure it'll be safe enough." "I hope you're right." It's not to long before they see a blue and orange plane come into view. It looks similar to a bi-plane, yet it's larger and has the capacity to seat about eight people. It hovers down to the fields below, landing straight down slowly. Luken walks toward the cockpit to see the pilot. "It's probably some old geezer of a war hero who hasn't flown in years or something." Sharai laughs, "Oh I'm sure that's not true. It's probably some pilot that's middle-aged and flies about as often as he walks." The cockpit opens and they find themselves both horribly mistaken. The pilot then hops out and speaks to them, "Hey, are you two ready ? I'll make sure you have a safe flight to Mobotropolis. My name is Captain Miles Prower, but you can call me Tails." Nothing he says can then drive away their fear and they close their eyes as the young fox flies them to Mobotroplis. "Not to sound rude," begins Luken "but you haven't been flying very long, have you ?" His answer consoles them a little, but they remain nervous as they soar over the sea to Mobotropolis. Luken's quest now at its end. |

Whew !
 Well, that's the end of that story.
:) I hope y'all enjoyed it.
;) Feel free to post your comments, questions, or criticism here now.
^_^ I'll close this thread again when I begin the next story, but for now it's open for discussion. I really meant to include more of my fan characters, namely Egarim and Shagano, but that didn't work out. The end was short but there was really rather little to say about it. So, what do y'all think of my characters ? That is Luken, Machiko, and of course, Leonadus. I'll try to post a picture of evil Leonadus, after he turned dark red and got real mad soon. I may try to just re-color the picture I drew of him, or I may work on some sprites of him again. Anyway, how did y'all like the story ? |
