Well I don't have a Wii Remote Plus so I'll probably get the special edition.
Me too.

I don't either, but I do have four Wii remotes and enough Wii Motion +'s for all of them ... so I really shouldn't, but durn it's cool looking.

Right now there's a live Square-Enix event for Dragon Quest in Japan right now. I'll watch if only because I have nothing else to do. It's all in Japanese so I'll try to follow to the best of my ability. Hopefully we'll see some DQX info. They're talking about DQ 25th Anniversary, Rocket Slime 3 for 3DS, and Fortune Street for Wii.

- They just showed off the video for DQX. It looks like an MMORPG. They showed off a bunch of different races that you could choose from, or so it looked like. It looked really good. Too good for a Wii game, but it may not have been in-game graphics. Maybe it'll be for Wii U?

- Lots of DQX info. Too bad I can't understand any of it. It's looking great.

- I'm hearing it's still confirmed for Wii. It'll have a lot of online to it, but is it an MMO, or is it more like DQIX, or something in between?

- They're showing the character customization now. Looks similar to DQIX's character customization. You'll choose the hair, eyes, and so forth.

- Gameplay is 3D like DQVIII. I guess that's no surprise. Equipping items changes your characters appearance.

- Now I think I'm hearing it'll be for Wii and Wii U. What's the deal?

- Special appearance by Satoru Iwata.

Gonintendo has some official details. Seems like it will have an online component, but you can still complete the game 100% without playing online.

Yeah I guess it'll be for Wii, and a Wii U version will be available later with updated graphics and such. 3DS will have some connectivity as well somehow. Sounds like a big deal.

Here's the GoNintendo link with more info.

I'm a bit in my cups at the moment.
This sounds great, I can't wait for DQX. I hope it really is Wii exclusive though. If it stays on the Wii I can get it as soon as it comes out, but if an enhanced version comes out for Wii U then there's no point in getting it on Wii. I'd have to wait until I get a Wii U.

EDIT: Unless someone is mistaken I'm now hearing that a Wii U version IS coming out, though it's just better graphics.

Yeah, that seems to be how it'll be released in Japan. The question is if NA will get both Wii and Wii U versions, or will they just release one? The game has a 2012 release in Japan, so I think by the time they get the game localized, the Wii U would already be out or close to release.

I wonder if Nintendo will be publishing and promoting it like IX too? I was pleasantly surprised to see Nintendo promote IX so much.

The demo for those of us who missed it. Part 1 Part 2

I actually kind of expect them to at this point. Not only did they publish IX, but they did VI and DQM:Joker 2. They seem to be really supporting the Dragon Quest series. I'm all for that.
