Again, this is a topic that we've already discussed a good bit, but I think it's an important one. I'm afraid that when the game comes out everyone will pick up their trusty GameCube controllers and not give the new control options another thought. Most people would probably respond to me by saying "what's wrong with that?" Now I know you guys will eventually give the new control options a try, but my question to you is do you honestly expect that you'll like one of the new control methods over the GameCube controller? And when you get the game in your hands which control type do you want to try out first? To honestly answer my own question I don't expect myself to prefer using one of the new control set-ups over the GameCube controller, but I hope I will be pleasantly surprised when I try them out. Since the Classic controller and GameCube have pretty much the same button set up just a different size and shape I really doubt that the Classic controller will be the victor but I'll still give using it a fair try. The sole Wii Remote and the Nunchuk style are the ones that I'm most interested in trying out though. |

I've thought about this a good bit, too. I think I will use the Gamecube controller at first, just to get into the swing of things. I originally figured I'd prefer using the classic controller, because I do love its design, but now I'm not so sure. Playing various VC games, the Gamecube controller is superior to the classic controller in some games. The classic controller is easily the best suited for Super Nintendo games, but it depends with N64 games. I think the Gamecube controller is the best choice for Super Mario 64 and Mario Kart 64. I think the classic controller works better for Ocarina of Time. It just really depends. Usually when the A button is used excessively as it is in Super Mario 64 for jumping and Mario Kart 64 for acceleration, the Gamecube controller is better to me because of its prominent A button. In Ocarina of Time, you have to have easy access to your C items so the X and Y shortcut buttons really help out in particular. That's what I've come to think anyway. As for Smash, the A button is almost constantly for standard, strong, and smash attacks. So the Gamecube controller would work great as it does in Melee. I usually jump using the Y button in Melee, though. With the classic controller button set up, Y and A are too far apart, and using X sacrifices easy access to your B special moves. We all know every second counts in Smash, so I don't think the classic controller will work as well as I originally thought (doesn't mean I won't try it of course). As for the Wii remote NES controller style, I really like the sound of that one. It would probably seriously take some getting used to, but it may be the one for me. For one thing, jumping. I simply don't press the joystick up to jump unless by accident. First thing I would do with a Gamecube or classic controller set-up is use that option the turn off joystick jumping. Me no likey joystick jumping at all. However, I didn't really like using the C buttons when I played the original Smash Bros. either. The Gamecube controller's Y button is much better, but still not perfect. Using the D-pad to jump, I actually like the sound of. Not to mention dashing with a quick double-tap either left or right. It's Kirby style controls! Coming from the company that makes Kirby games naturally. I like Kirby controls, and I think I'd do well using them for Smash. As for the double-button smash attacks, I don't see me having a problem with that. I constantly used double-button attacks to own in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II for NES way back. Yeah, as long as my Wii remote batteries are charged, I intend to be trying to smash with just the remote. Then it's back to Gamecube controllers. Finally, the nunchuk ... I don't really know. It sounds cool, but I don't really see myself using it a lot. For games like Twilight Princess, it rocks. For Smash ... well, I'll at least try it out a few times naturally. As far as I can tell now though, it's the Wii remote for me, NES style. :mario: |

I'm going to try out every option, and see which one fits me best, which one will I use first? Which ever one is already set up when I bring Brawl home. |

Lol, nice way to choose which to try first. And to Project: Shadow, I'd also like to get used to just the Wii Remote, but what about blocking and grabbing? (having to use the B button as well as + - seems strange) It's funny what you say about VC games because my experience with N64 games is completely opposite. Classic is perfect for SNES games, I agree, but I found the GameCube controller much more suited for Ocarina of Time and Star Fox. I use the Classic for Mario Kart 64, but to me either controller works fine for it and SM64. |

I'm going to use the gamecube controller. They aren't really adding anything weird to the control scheme, so it'll work best. I think I'll have a Wiimote handy...I honestly don't like using both the nunchuck and Wiimote in a fighting game. I'll sooner use the Wiimote by itself... |

I use the classic controller for practically every VC game I play XD. Though sometimes for NES games I choose a retro approach with the NES controller(like i have been doing w/ Startropics). |

Oh yeah, I actually do use the classic controller for Starfox. Its L and R buttons are easier to press down to me and I need that kind of quick response, especially when it's time to ... DO A BARREL ROLL!! XD Using (-) for grab doesn't sound too bad to me, nor for shield (I never use the shield + attack method for grabbing). I dunno. I guess we'll see. |

*crickets chirping* I forgot to mention that I whole heartedly agree with Project: Shadow about jumping. I'm really glad that they put in the option to turn off joystick jumping and I plan on utilizing this option because I never use the joystick to jump intentionally. Using this option will make doing standard up-A attacks much easier. |

You're just jealous because you can't use a guitar controller. |
