The money system now places Nintendo ahead of its competition now in my book as far as making actual purchases go. A very simple, yet phenomenal feature at the same time. I really don't know why NO ONE has been doing this. I don't know if its just a sneaky way to try to make money and have people have credit/points that they will never use or something like that.
No one? The PS3 never had funbucks like the Wii and 360.
PSN uses actual dollars and cents, but you still have a wallet and you still have to add funds to it. So it's still pretty much the same, except they tell you right there the actual dollar amount of each thing rather than "zomg it costs 600 SuperPointzTM". (EDIT: I can't remember if Steam does the same thing as PSN in this regard. I remember giving myself $25, but I don't remember if I only did that because it gave me specific dollar-amount options or if I actually wanted to give myself $25.) With Steam, you have the option of adding funds to your Steam Wallet, but the usual way to pay for a game is to pay the exact amount with your credit card. IIRC, you can add any amount to your Steam Wallet above $5. I've never had a need to use Steam Wallet though.
EDIT: Oh I see HMS, PSN works just like the Steam Wallet then. Never mind. :)

Or, more accurately, I never really knew that in the first place. ^So that's really for when I actually gave myself $25.

I love all the new features with the update, especially the new StreetPass Mii stuff. I didn't even know about the new 'Needed to Pay' feature, that's great! But another new eShop feature that no one has mentioned here is you can now queue up your downloads instead of having to wait for them to download you can add them to your download queue and they will download in the background or while your 3DS is in sleep mode :). I was anxious to get the new Club Nintendo download rewards to try this out, but unfortunately Club Nintendo is still down for the rennovation :/ (EDIT) Scratch that, the site is back up now; the new rewards have been announced but aren't available yet and the site is still the old Club Nintendo.
(and Bermuda... you've already bought 78 games/apps in the eShop?! wow)

I got all the 3D Classics, several GB VC games, and I wonder if the 10 free Ambassador NES games count? Don't have too many DSi games.

Well I was going by your 78 cents, because as far as I've seen everything in the eShop is $#.99, leaving you one cent after every purchase that you cannot spend. Maybe something had 49 or 50 cents?

Oh, I see what your saying. Actually, where I'm from there is tax we have to pay. I know the eShop doesn't make you pay tax in certain states, but here we do. So I'm paying a couple dimes more for games. Now that I think about it, I probably only bought about 10 or 15 games.

See, right now I have a balance of $1.11, so I've paid for 11 games on the eShop and had one cent left over from each purchase. I just thought it was that way for everyone; sorry about that.

So I've been playing a lot of Mario Kart 7. Anyone else planning to get this one? I've seen HMS play sometimes I think, and I think I even played a match or two with him online. One cool new feature they added to the online was that we can create communities. We create a group and set the rules of the game like items and cc class, but once the rules are set you can't change them ever. Anyway, you're then given a 10 digit code and you give that to people you want to invite. If more of us got the game, we could create our own Station Square community and that could lead to good times. This way we don't have to worry about a race being full and we can all join in. Just an idea for anyone who's interested in the game.
