I'm trying hard mode now. In order to unlock hard mode for each world as you progress you have to use a special technique at least once on the boss. Of course, this only applies to the first three bosses. The game's been even more enjoyable on hard mode since it presents more of a challenge. Unfortunately, now that I'm near the end it's really hard and it looks like I'm going to get game over and have to start over. It's been quite a while since I've had to do that on a game. I kind of like it in a way. Anyway, here's what beating the game on hard mode (all the way through) is supposed to unlock (from what I've read). I'll put it as a spoiler anyway, but you can plainly see it in the game's options. Spoiler: click to toggle

Alright, so I finally got Rocket Knight on my new xbox and played all night. I've almost beat it. It's good and it's a fun game, but it just doesn't compare to the original RKA. The most disappointing thing about it is the music. The music isn't bad, but it just doesn't stick. It's nowhere near as awesome as the original music (except for the first level's bgm because it is from the original game). I'd much rather hear more of the original game's music with remixes or whatnot. And the characters just aren't quite right to me. It's mainly Sparkster and Axel's girly "voices" that I don't like; Sparkster's isn't high-pitched enough, lol. And Axel Gear has completely lost his coolness. And the bosses are too few and overall don't compare with those of old either. The new graphical style is pretty nice though. I didn't quite beat it last night, so we'll see how I like the ending. |

Ok, I beat the game (on normal). Final boss was pretty good I suppose, too bad you didn't get to fight in your own giant robot suit. As for the music, I put my own soundtrack in. I was streaming the classic RKA tunes on my xbox while playing in place of the regular bgm and it fit in perfectly, haha. There is an achievement for completing Gold Sparskter Mode so maybe there is more to the Gold Sparkster suit than just a skin. |

Yeah, they were seriously lacking bosses. The original game had you fighting a mid-boss or some really powerful enemy nearly every other screen. The remixed theme from the first stage was awesome, but yeah, I agree the rest doesn't quite compare. They seriously should have remixed that awesome boss music. I've been working on beating the game on hard every now and then. It's pretty challenging. |
