My TMNT game is based on the final fight from the arcade game, shredder is about to fire the baby turtle beam, and you have to jump over it. |

Oh yeah I've gotta download and try out your new Mario game, Bermuda, it sounds great. The early versions of your Pokemon game gave me an idea for a battle game where the Pokemon are randomized and you have to choose the attack that would be super effective in order to win. I started making my Beyond the Margins game yesterday. I know how I want the whole thing to work now, but I may need some help on setting up the AI to do what I want. Plus I've gotta make the rest of my Paper Dood sprites/animations... I'm wondering how did you guys make such awesome sprites? And when using frames for an animated sprite is there a way to copy the first frame to another frame (not just see the faded image) so that you don't have to draw it over again every time? In the AI, is there a way to change the looping of an animation when something happens - like start looping when a trigger occurs? |

I'll look at the AI of your Beyond the Margins micro game and see if I can figure anything out. With Monday's update came a multitude of micro games available for download, some of which are really great (Metroid II). They were the winners of the first theme contest, which I unfortunately never got around to entering, but I definitely do want to enter some of the contests. I also uploaded my latest game, although it could definitely use some refining, a Darkwing Duck micro game. The objective is to carefully time DW's grand entrance (by tapping anywhere) so that Mega Volt's back is turned. If you appear when his back turned, Darkwing will fire his gas gun to stun Mega Volt, winning the game, but if you're noticed, Mega Volt will zap you and you'll lose. Download it and let me know what you think. Update: I've uploaded a new game to my Wi-Fi warehouse crates. Now before anyone plays it, I need to explain. XD Okay, so I made this game with my little sister. I did the developing, but she came up with the idea for the game. Yeah ... so, uh ... it's a My Little Pony micro game. HOWEVER, it has somewhat complex AI that I took a long time experimenting with. Her idea was for the pony to be carrying a birthday cake, so to me this meant she was balancing a really tall, multi-layered cake as she transported it to it's destination. So as you walk (controlled by arrow buttons on each side of the pony) the cake leans in the opposite direction, so you have to compensate by quickly changing direction until the cake stabilizes and you carry it safely to the table. Otherwise, you drop the entire thing and make a mess. In the final stretches of programming the AI I hit a problem with needing just one more space for AI on layer 2 of the cake. It seemed like nothing would work properly without it because I thought I needed AI for layer 2 touching an area to the left that makes the cake fall and another for touching an area to the right that also makes the cake fall. So, alternatively, I created a visible invisible (one that blends in with the background) object for it to touch instead that would wrap around each side of the cake eliminating the need to touch two different areas on each side. It worked pretty well and was just what I needed for an AI shortcut, though it definitely would've been harder if the background wasn't so simple. Anyway, if you'd like to see how it works give it a download and let me know what ya think. Edited by Project: Shadow, May 7 2010, 11:10 PM.

I have been unable to log in to the Warehouse crates to check out your games for the past couple days. Been getting error messages. Not sure why. I will keep trying and hopefully try out the new games soon. |

Dude, I need to get this WiiWare game soon. Charizard? Mega Man? MY LITTLE PONY?! Then I need to go kill Nintendo for not making the DS WPA-friendly. Then I need to go kill my cable company for using WPA in the first place. |

LoL Seriously. Luckily you can share games via the Showcase as well, I believe (Wii to Wii). So you could still make games on the DS, send them to the Wii, and then send them to other people who have WW DIY Showcase. |

I finally got to try out your games. Pretty interesting My Little Pony game you have there. It's also good to see a Darkwing Duck game. And to answer Gamma's questions in case they are still unanswered, I just find game sprites online and draw them in my games. Nothing original there. Also to copy and paste an image to another frame, you have to use the select tool at the bottom. You drag the cursor to select the entire frame, hit copy, switch to another frame, and hit paste. And to change animations when triggers are hit, you would select "art" from the list of options, and from there you will be given other options like stop, or change art. You really just got to play around and see what does what. As for me, I've been kind of stuck on ideas. I do have one with Link fighting a Gohma. Both Link and Gohma are moving back and forth, and you have to shoot arrows at Gohma's eye. I think I'll work on the now. Edit: Also added a new Zelda game. Check it out. I'm 90% happy with it. Wasn't feeling the music that much and I couldn't find a way to get rid of the sound effect when tapping the screen after the game has been won. I wish I was able to give more than 5 commands sometimes. I also wish I had more colors to choose from for the art. Edited by Super Bermuda, May 13 2010, 06:48 PM.

Sounds cool. I quickly figured out the part about changing animations, but thanks for the answer/tip on drawing sprites and copying frames, I needed to know that. I'm gonna see if I can get my wireless working so that I can try out PS's new games Edit: Well it didn't work :/ I think I'm going to have to buy a new router Edited by CHAOSGAMMA, May 13 2010, 07:16 PM.

I've decided to do a Zelda series of games. I have in my crate now an Aquamentus and Dodongo battle. For Aquamentus, you're both moving up and down and you tap the screen to shoot your sword. Hit Aquamentus and win. For dodongo you tap a glowing tile to lay down a bomb. Got to be quick or you will miss. If dodongo runs into the bomb, you win. If he goes past, you lose. Both games have the same dungeon tune, but I like the second one better since I used an opera man voice. Just sounds better to me. I have ideas for Gohma and Gleeok, but not too sure on what to do for Digdogger and Manhandla. I want to use different items each for each battle. Aquamentus has you using the sword, Dodongo has you using bombs. Ghoma will be arrows, and I'll use the wand for Gleeok. I wanted to use the whistle for Digdogger, but I obviously can't get a whistle tune going. I guess I can use bombs again for Manhandla, but we'll see. For Ganon, I plan to use silver arrows. Maybe I can have him teleport at random somewhere on the screen and you have to hit him. |

Cool, I tried your games. Very nicely done. I notice you've got the Zelda dungeon theme in there, too. Did you pick out the notes yourself or use some kind of guide? It sounds great! Accurately recreated sprites as always. I can't wait to tackle the rest of the bosses. :link: "Oh boy!" *stabbed repeatedly* I'm trying to fill the entire DIY game section with games (the crapload of theme games helped a lot). I'm pretty sure you unlock a record for doing that, so my shelves are pretty cluttered and unorganized right now, kind of like a Game Stop I went in once. LoL I haven't made any new games, but I'd really like to make something Metroid related and then try to start a project to make an entire collection of 18 micro games, though I'm not sure whether it'll be the Mega Man games or something. The Metroid II theme game available for download is really cool. It has you firing missiles at an Alpha Metroid. I don't know if I'll do anything with it, but I imported the Alpha Metroid sprites and colored them (they were in the original Gameboy grayscale). I think it looks pretty cool. I might try to do the sprites of the other Metroid forms myself. I just sort of recently really got into Metroid, y'know. Really, I think the Metroids themselves are my favorite aspect of the series. Somehow it's just so cool how they're so deadly and yet they were originally created for good, kind of like other awesome genetic experiment game characters like Shadow and Mewtwo. So if I do succeed in making a Metroid micro game, expect the Metroids themselves to be a major part of it. Maybe Samus will be in it, too. We'll see. XD |
