I'm a bit in my cups at the moment.
This might be too early, but I want more activity in this board.

So, Smash Bros. 4. Its announcement wasn't a surprise, but what did surprise me was that Sakurai is working on it. I thought he was done with Smash Bros.? Oh well, fine with me. Though I do wonder how someone else would've handled Smash Bros...

So, you know what to discuss. Character wishlists and ideas, new features, improved features, etc.

Yeah, I thought I remember him saying that Brawl was his final Smash Bros. Well, I'm not complaining. Here are some characters I'd like to see.

Paper Mario - Paper Mario I think can have a completely different moveset than Mario. I've always imagined him having a glide like Pit and Charizard by turning into a paper airplane.

Yarn Kirby - Again, he would be very different from Kirby. He wouldn't have the ability to absorb other characters' abilities, but he does have some unique transformations at his disposal. If they keep final smashes in then he could turn into his giant tank form.

Mii - I think Miis should have been in Brawl, but oh well. I think they could even be customizable in a number of ways. Miis come in different sizes so we could have large, powerfull Miis or we could have small and more nimble Miis.

Little Mac - This guy's a fighter. I'd be surprised if he doesn't make it into the next game.

Mewtwo - Yeah I think we should bring him back. I liked him better than Lucario. I'm guessing we will see them replace Lucario with Zoroark though.

Tom Nook - No idea what his moves would be, but Animal Crossing needs some representation, and Nook is the guy who stands out most in my mind.

Gary Oak - Would he play like Pokemon trainer? Maybe. What pokemon does he have? An eevee? That could be interesting, then it could evolve to a random form in the middle of fights. I think that's a longshot though.

Third party characters - I think Sakurai said that getting third party characters in Smash Bros. was very difficult, and even Pokemon is tough. It would be awesome if we see some, but I'm not expecting too much if any. If we see any, I kind if expect Sonic to return. I think he fits in extremely well in the game. Nintendo's also been good with Square-Enix and the Dragon Quest series. Slime is kind of the mascot, but who knows how well he'd fare in a fight. And I would like to see Travis Touchdown from the No More Heroes games. Yeah, they may have to tone him down a few thousand notches to make him suitable for the game, but I think he would make a good fit.

I'd like characters to have alt-costumes. I want to play as Dry Bowser, but obviously his moveset wouldn't be different from regular Bowser. Wario was the only one with an alt-costume in Brawl, and others would benefit from it. I want to see Samus in her actual various suits, not just her Varia suit in Fusion suit colors. You could bring back Dr. Mario this way possibly.

From what I understand, both Wii U and 3DS are getting their own Smash games. Will they be released around the same time? I think they should have almost completely different character rosters. I think the main characters like Mario, Link, Kirby, Pikachu and Samus would be appearing in both games, but these games need unique characters.

Those are my thoughts for now.

I was thinking the same thing concerning the rosters of the two games, though if they do connect in some way maybe you'll be able to use those characters on the other game only when connected or something. I had many characters in mind for Brawl that I can't remember now, but I'm sure they'll come to me soon. We definitely need Mega Man (maybe Zero) and Sonic needs to return (maybe with a friend or foe tagging along) and more costumes would be great.

I want Sonic and Snake to remain in the game. IMO they need 2 more third party heroes. I am thinking Shantae, and Frank West. :p

I think the next logical step for the series is to move into tag team battles.

Sakurai Speaks Briefly About The Two Games

When do you think we'll see this game? 2013? 2014?

So it hasn't really been started yet? Yeesh, I'm going with 2014 at the least, assuming they don't rush the games. (Please don't rush these, please...)

I'm still wondering if the games will be released around the same time, or will the focus on one game before moving on to the next. 2014 sounds like the earliest to me.

I knew the hype train would start the moment the games were announced ^_^ . I thought it was pretty cool how Iwata didn't hesitate to already make such a promise for 2 huge games that they haven't even started production on yet!

I'm not really hyped actually, no different than the other times I try to think of new stages and characters for Smash Bros. I think they announced them too early considering we probably aren't getting these until the middle of the Wii U's life.

This is from June but I'm just now seeing it and it hasn't been mentioned here. Seems like they're kind of doing the Pokémon thing where you bring characters from the handheld game to the console game.
