Well ya beat me to it, but anyways... Nintendo just made my day! http://press.nintendo.com/articles.jsp?id=30048 Crazy! Awesome! When we first start reading it's like "what the crap? They're dropping the price HOW MUCH!?! $80!?! Already? I just paid $250 for the thing and in less than 6 months it's gonna be how much? What the heck?" But then it starts to get good... "Oh wow, Star Fox, Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart 7, and Kid Icarus all this holiday season?! I'm listening... 20 FREE GAMES!?! Ambassador? I like the sound of that :). 10 free NES games on Sept 1st? :) Wait... What? Really? 10 free GBA games by the end of this year!?! Woah! Awesome!!!" :D :D :D |

Whoa. 20 Free games is insane. And good games too. I was expecting a price drop, but this is huge. I'd have been upset if it weren't for those free games. |

Whaaaaaat?!!?!?! 0_o Geez!! That's amazing, although I do kind of hate it for Nintendo. Then again, it's getting lots of VC games out which they had become serious slack on for whatever reason (on the Wii at least) so I'm all for it. I hope they continue with this mindset that more VC games available (and price cuts) will bring more sales. |

I would say hold out for Christmas if you think it will take a while to get a 3DS. I bet they will have a gold zelda bundle for christmas. |

I should have around $150 by the middle of August assuming nothing else gets spent. So I should have enough by the middle of September. |

I also want to add that I think it's odd that Nintendo has started to number the Mario Kart series at 7. I figured they would just call it Mario Kart 3DS since the DS and Wii versions just had they system name in the title. I wonder if the next one would be called Mario Kart 8. If not, it would be weird that only one game in the series gets the number. It would be like if GoldenEye was simply called James Bond 17. It's just kind of weird to me I guess. |

You hate it for Nintendo that they've already sold 830,000 3DS units in the US alone? It's a crazy huge price drop, but it's all a part of their marketing strategy. At the $250 price they've still been selling a bunch of the old bargain DS's, just like they wanted to. They never want to kill off the old handheld sales because they still have a lot of capital on the market (systems that have already been manufactured that need to be sold). Just like the 3 tier marketing strategy that I'm sure most of you remember: if we thought about how the only thing that the GBA could do that the DS couldn't is game link, we may have seen right through this (taking away features like that is another part of their strategy). Also, there are frequently games that are still under development for the older system that they still want to give a chance for good sales (this probably isn't as big a deal this time around because consumers should get the backwards compatibility drill with 3DS and DS, especially since no features were lost). Anyways, while all of this has been going on, Nintendo has been manufacturing 3DS units like flapjacks. This with the massive price drop and the upcoming software lineup is all gearing up for this holiday season. And then of course they've gotta keep their loyal fans and early adopters happy through all of this: so instead of feeling robbed and getting mad, we're super excited to get 20 free downloadable games! (something that will cost Nintendo very little but would probably cost us well over $100 to buy on the shop individually. Oh, and they say they currently haven't announced any plans to make the GBA games available for purchase in the shop so we feel like we're getting something exclusive and we're promised the NES games before they're available for purchase by everyone else) So everybody's happy! Its pure marketing genius! ^_^ |

Is that the official title or is it just placeholder? I agree though if thats the final title. Its rather generic and while the series is amazing and each title still feels fresh when you start getting that high the stigma alone kind of sounds bad. Even though Mario Kart DS, 64, Wii, and 3DS are/would be rather generic in of itself I suppose. . . Also, this is huge news. I'm really glad the early adopters are getting a fair amount of gifts. In all honesty, I'm satisfied with my $250 purchase, I have not regretted it yet, nor would I especially with the holiday line up. But this soon after launch? I probably would have been really upset, but these goodies are definitely looking nice. |
