I also want to add that I think it's odd that Nintendo has started to number the Mario Kart series at 7. I figured they would just call it Mario Kart 3DS since the DS and Wii versions just had they system name in the title. I wonder if the next one would be called Mario Kart 8. If not, it would be weird that only one game in the series gets the number. It would be like if GoldenEye was simply called James Bond 17. It's just kind of weird to me I guess.
Is that the official title or is it just placeholder?

I agree though if thats the final title. Its rather generic and while the series is amazing and each title still feels fresh when you start getting that high the stigma alone kind of sounds bad. Even though Mario Kart DS, 64, Wii, and 3DS are/would be rather generic in of itself I suppose. . .

Also, this is huge news. I'm really glad the early adopters are getting a fair amount of gifts. In all honesty, I'm satisfied with my $250 purchase, I have not regretted it yet, nor would I especially with the holiday line up. But this soon after launch? I probably would have been really upset, but these goodies are definitely looking nice.
I dont know if its the official title that they're sticking with, but Nintendo did call it that. It's just like Windows; something about the number 7 ^_^

I'm a bit in my cups at the moment.
Weird, literally everyone else on this subject has said that the 3DS hasn't been doing good (by a certain standard I can't remember. Nintendo standards?), hence the price drop. I think part of the reason is that a lot of people, casual and regular gamers, don't realize that the 3DS is a new system and not a DS revision. I think Nintendo shot themselves in the foot by releasing so many DS revisions.

Yeah I saw that. Oh well its just a name!

I can't wait till we hear the rest of the free games the Ambassador's will be getting.

EDIT: @Dragon

Well, I don't know what Nintendo's thoughts are, but I think two of the main reasons the system is dropping in price is to compete with the Vita and probably due to lower than expected sales. But at the same time does that necessarily mean its doing poorly? I say yes and no.

I'm no businessman, nor do I try to make it seem like I'm one, but I really didn't expect the 3DS to just fly off the shelves month after month upon launch. The original DS didn't do this, and this sure as heck won't either since it was released three months after Christmas and costs $250. I wasn't honestly worried and wouldn't be until I saw its performance when its top tier titles such as Mario Kart DS and Super Mario come out for it(which basically boosted the sales of the DS and Wii, though Nintendogs also did this for the original DS so perhaps my reasoning is flawed?)

And yeah the DS brand is helping and hurting it. DS is a very familiar brand for the world now, but at the same time the common consumer may not be educated on the subject matter enough to realize that its an entirely new system.

When I purchased OoT 3D the lady selling me the game asked "Can I play this on my regular DS?"

SECOND EDIT:

I read this in the press release:

- Starting Sept. 1, Nintendo 3DS Ambassadors will be able to download 10 NES™ Virtual Console™ games at no charge and before they are available in the Nintendo eShop to the general public. These games, including Super Mario Bros.™, Donkey Kong Jr.™, Balloon Fight™, Ice Climber™ and The Legend of Zelda™, are slated to become paid downloadable games, but Ambassadors get them early for free. Once the paid versions of the games are posted to the Nintendo eShop later in the year, the updated versions will be available to Ambassadors for download at no cost.

Free updated versions? Are these receiving 3D updates or something?

Fantastic. I just happen to be on an internet connection that refuses to let my 3DS on to it, so no Ambassador for me yet. <_< Thankfully, I'm going to NYC next week, so I can try and find a hotspot that will let me onto the eShop.

I PAID $250 FOR MY 3DS AND I WANT MY TWENTY FREE GAMES DARN IT

(Seriously, I would love to try out Metroid Fusion and Mario vs. DK, and the rest of the lineup they have is pretty impressive. All that to compensate for an $80 price drop? Wow.)

Oh sweet! Maybe so, that would be really cool :) Nice catch ;) Maybe they were already working on 3D versions of these games and now that this happened they decided to just go ahead and give us the games to appease us Ambassadors, then release the 3D versions in their own timing which will be free updates for us

I really wonder what the other games will be. They picked some real winners here. I am having a hard time thinking of 5 more NES games they could put out from Nintendo's back catalog that aren't sequels to whats already been shown.

However Kid Icuarus, Metroid, and Pinball make sense. Nintendo would score HUGE points if they released Earthbound Zero. (I mean the game WAS translated, and they are giving these away for free anyway)

For the GBA games I am hoping for Link to the Past, Pokemon Emerald, and Donkey Kong Country 2, Drill Dozer, and God willing the Earthbound Collection :p (I CAN DREAM!)

My common sense tells me not to even think of such things, but oh man, if Nintendo really did give us Earthbound Zero for free. . .that'd just be amazing.

Kid Icarus wouldn't be a bad choice, since it could help promote the new one coming out.
