Though for some weird reason I kinda think this timeline is better. :link:
It lists the Oracle games in the "Okay" part? This is the worst timeline I've ever seen.

I'm surprised I didn't hear about this until I was browsing the Zelda wiki the other night. After all the years of seeing people trying to make sense of the mysterious timeline, Nintendo just gives it to us and I don't hear anything about it. Maybe it was because of my issues with RSS feeds for a few weeks, I don't know.

This does go along with stuff I've heard over the years, like Zeldas I and II taking place at the end of the timeline (before WW came along that is)...or a timeline in this case, plus ALttP taking place before them. I never played Minish Cap but heard a few times that it took place before OoT, which ended up being right. Was something said in the game that made it obvious? TP's placement also goes along with someone from Nintendo saying it takes place hundreds of years after MM. I thought WW was a part of the same line though.

I also would never have guessed that the Oracle games take place after ALttP, nor that they share the same Link.

I always heard Minish Cap took place before OoT as well, but I don't think there was anything in the game implying that fact. Minish Cap only kind of connects to the Four Sword games because of Vaati. Minish Cap probably could have been put anywhere.

So after some point I did start believing there was a split timeline, particularly to separate Twilight Princess from Wind Waker, though I wasn't sure why. After discussing it, it kind of dawned on me (though I doubt I'm the first to come to this conclusion I'll put it up anyway), Wind Waker Link is not a descendent of the Hero of Time. The timeline split because after OOT Link defeated Ganon in the future Hyrule he returned to the past to create a new timeline, but the future Hyrule he left behind kept going without him in it. That's why it's said in Wind Waker's opening that their hero had vanished and they were defenseless to prevent Ganon from returning, he never got married and had kids or anything because he left. Therefore, it took that long for someone LIKE the Hero of Time to be born that was pure of heart and had what it takes to be a hero. His village just dressed their boys of that age like that to honor their memory of the Hero of Time. Wind Waker Link was not of his bloodline and had to obtain the Triforce of Courage on his own. Luckily all of the games in the Adult Era are direct sequels. Now if someone could just explain to me the placement of Twilight Princess and Four Swords Adventures ... I'm not even going to try and understand that whole "Hero is Defeated" deal until I figure them out.

I actually never had any idea where Twilight Princess fell into the timeline, so if they say that is where it belongs then who am I to argue? I knew about the two timeline thing with child Link and Adult Link, and I knew Majora's Mask was right after OoT in the child timeline. "The Hero is Defeated" thing makes it sound like there are three timelines now, and that's where my confusion comes into play. I'm sure I would need to read the entire book someday, as that page is telling me to check out page 92 for more info. I'm sure they go into more depth with the story of each game. At least I hope that is the case.

It seems there are three hero lineages. When the timelines split, each comes with it's own bloodline. In the Child Era, the Hero of Time has returned to the past and his bloodline carries on. This is the only bloodline where the Triforce of Courage is passed down through directly following Ocarina of Time. In the Adult Era, the Hero of Time vanished into the Door of Time leaving Hyrule without it's savior. Thus, Ganondorf returned and Hyrule had to be flooded until a new hero arose, the Hero of Winds. In a different turn of events, the Hero of Time is defeated and Ganon obtains the full Triforce. However, the Knights of Hyrule (wherever they were hiding) work together with the Sages and manage to seal him away. The lineage of the Knights of Hyrule is carried on with A Link to the Past Link and his descendents.

That said, I'm interested in where in time the next game is likely to take place. Hopefully it does go into more depth with our existing story rather than introduce more concepts to confuse us.

Me too! I've reached the dungeon in the desert.

And this is cool in regards to the timeline because I'm at the beginning playing Skyward Sword and I have Minish Cap and Four Swords next in line to play (I was already planning to play those next anyways).

God the last stretch of this game is driving me nuts. I can't wait to finish so I can get this trash out of my gaming library!

All these fetch quests and padding to artificially lengthen the gameplay!

I would MUCH rather play a short game that was amazing start to finish then a long mediocre one!
