The game comes out in a week!! I'm really looking forward to it. The new copy abilities looks like some of the best yet (Water, Leaf, Whip, and Spear) and being able to choose between King Dedede, Meta Knight, Waddle Dee, or multiple colored Kirbys for addition players is great. Of all the upcoming games, this is one of the games I'm looking forward to the most and it's so soon! I'm going to pick it up at launch, otherwise I may have to wait until another week or two, but in the meantime (as my brother brought to my attention) I need to finally get to completing Kirby's Dreamland 3 and Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards (I beat them of course but haven't unlocked the showdown with the real final boss yet). I've only a few things left to do to have Kirby Super Star Ultra and Kirby's Epic Yarn 100% so I might work on those as well. Anyway, let's continue discussion for the game here.

Yeah, I really want this game too. The last few Kirby games have been pretty good with Epic Yarn last year and the more recent Mass Attack. Both were good fun games.

I want this game, unfortunately I have to wait till Christmas, but I'm really pumped for it, looks great!

How long have we been waiting for this game? At least 5 years, back when it was on the GCN.

I'm a bit in my cups at the moment.
Yeah, I think it was 05 or 06 that is was first announced? I remember seeing a screenshot of it in NP, not sure if that was before or after the Wii came out.

I remember it was announced alongside Super Paper Mario, which at the time was announced for the GameCube. Then SPM went to Wii, and I was expecting the same for Kirby. Don't know what took so long.

As much as I want this game too, I'm probably going to end up waiting for Christmas (along with Mass Attack). I need the time to fill in FFXIII, Arkham City, Generations, and Skyward Sword.

And I'm still not going to beat any of those games by then.

Here's screenshots of previous versions of Return to Dreamland:

This one reminds me of an N64 game.

I like this one a lot!

And this is the one we saw all the time back in the day when it was first announced. I remember seeing this in Nintendo Power.

(screenshots lifted from GoNintendo, which were in turn lifted from a Japanese Iwata Asks segment)

Yep, it's been a long time coming though and they managed to keep some of the concepts from the previous versions such as stacking players on top of each other and the return of those stars (seems like they've been left out of quite a few Kirby games). A little part of me misses the idea of the Helpers returning from Kirby Super Star, but we did just get them back in Super Star Ultra along with that new arena mode made just for them. My brother and sister have been playing with me and we're going through the whole game 3-player pretty much. I'm glad they brought back the extra moves for abilities from Super Star and added even more (such as Sword Kirby's new spin attack). Squeak Squad's ability scroll for Spark added a move similar to Plasma, but with this game they've truly been combined. While I do like the different hats, I do support the decision to combine Burning with Fire, Freeze with Ice, and Plasma with Spark. It makes them more fun to use and leaves room for more abilities. I love all the new abilities. They're some of the best yet, especially Water! The Super Abilities are fun to play around with though they last a bit too long IMO. With all the destruction they cause, it's like if Mega Mario lasted twice as long in New Super Mario Bros. We just started Area 3 and have collected all the gears/energy spheres so far.

So for those of you that already got the game (and nearly completed it Project: Shadow), what's your verdict? Was this really what Kirby fans had been waiting for? And is this a game definitely not to miss this holiday season (as opposed to getting it later like sometime next year)? I haven't seen much advertisement for the game (maybe it's out there and I just haven't noticed), but I hope it doesn't fall under the radar for most gamers and does well over the holiday season (especially if it's as good as it should be, for Kirby's sake).

I really like the game. It plays more like a classic Kirby title rather than some other recent games like Mass Attack and Epic Yarn. It's a great game if you want to play some multiplayer, but single player is also really fun. However, I don't think it's really a must buy game right now. If you wanted to wait until later next year to pick it up, you'll be fine. Personally I think there are other games coming out now that take priority over Kirby. This is a classic Kirby game with a NSMBWii style co-op, so if that sounds like your thing then you can't go wrong.
