How much is too much for Wii U?

The questions in the title. This came up on Go Nintendo and I wanted to ask here.

The rumor right now is the system will cost $350. What do you think? That too much? Or is it just right?

Me personally I think its too much. I can afford it sure. But in this day and age where I can get a quad core laptop for almost the same price, or a tablet PC for LESS. I can't bring myself to spend that much on a game system.

My limit for the thing is $250. If I have to wait, so be it!

My bet is at least $300. It's running on much better hardware than the Wii, and from the looks of it, better than the 360 and PS3.

I think $300 would be a fair price considering the 360 w/ a HDD costs that much, and that's running on ancient hardware at this point. Unless there's been a price drop and I don't remember.

Of course, I'm not getting a Wii U without a job, so whatever.

EDIT: About your comment on the quad core laptop, we don't even know what CPU the Wii U will use. I don't think you can really make that comparison yet. Plus I'm pretty sure having a quad core doesn't mean it would be good for gaming. Laptops for gaming cost A LOT more than $350. Whatever the case, Nintendo needs to price it carefully. Charging $250 for the 3DS hurt them and I hope they learned a lesson from it.

Double edit: Don't forget the tablet controller. I see a lot of people say something like that could be pricey to make.

The limit I will give it is $299.99. I think that if they try asking more than $300 then the sales will crawl like the PS3 after it launched (maybe not quite that bad). At that price even I might be waiting for a price drop. I'd hate to see the Wii U follow the PS3 trend where long after the release developers would still rather make Wii games because not enough consumers have the Wii U (I'm sure we'll still see some of that either way, but I'm thinking more mainstream titles).

Isn't this was happened with the 3DS because of the launch price? Like I said, I hope Nintendo learned a lesson from that.

And to add to my earlier post, I highly doubt this will launch at $250. That's wishful thinking. The Wii launched for such a cheap price because it was using pretty old tech. (Basically a powered up GameCube, a system that no doubt had its tech finalized in 2000) The PS3 is $250 now, yes, but that's years after it launched, and the Wii U has been more or less confirmed by devs to be more powerful than that. I'm sure it'll get lowered to $250 eventually, but I just can't see it launching for that.

Considering the tablet, I'd say the highest it'd launch would be $400.

I'd like to see it for $300 to $350.

Anything less just isn't imaginable to me.

I'd say $300 is my price limit. Rumors going around that Nintendo's planning a very strong launch line-up so we'll see if that influences a day 1 purchase. Maybe they''ll have a pack-in game as well, though probably won't be more than another Wii Sports type title. Even with all that, I'd say $300 is the most they can ask, unless they show off something incredible at E3.
