Press release

Like it says in the title, Episode VII is targeted for release in 2015, and they're planning on doing VIII and IX as well. It'll be released under the Disney-Lucasfilm brand. I am...cautiously optimistic about this. What do you think Episode VII could be about? How do you think this might affect other parts of the Star Wars series, and other Lucasfilm stuff? Or Lucasarts for that matter?

Pretty cool to hear! Disney buying Pixar and Marvel didn't really have too big of an impact on them, except giving them more money and better releases so I think this can only be good for them.

I wonder how Episode 7 will turn out, Lucas will only be a creative consultant from what I've read and I wonder to what extent?

He said after fan backlash he was more or less done with the Star Wars saga so I wonder if it's just a matter of him stamping his approval on other people's ideas.

Don't really know which direction the series will go next. Obviously there's a whole expanded universe to go off of but I'm sure they'll do something new rather than adapt any of it.

I'm really curious if any of the original actors will appear, even if just cameos. They're all either old or fat so they probably won't be main characters :P.

I figure Episode VII (or is it officially Episode 7?) won't be about Luke and such. I figure it would be hard to make a movie about them without the original actors. And yeah I wonder if this will be based on EU stuff or be something original.

I'm particularly curious about LucasArts stuff. I wonder if Disney would want to do anything with, say, Monkey Island? Like make a movie or TV show for it? I'd love CG movies (from whoever did Tangled and I assume Wreck-It Ralph) for MI and Sam & Max.

I'm sure it'll be Episode VII, I was just being lazy.

I also wonder if it'll be a one-off and see where it goes from there or if it'll be a planned trilogy?

I also wonder if it'll try to jump start the live action TV series that they're working on. Although that's supposed to take place before the original trilogy so I guess that would probably be out of the question.

Well they were calling it Episode 7 in the press release. And the press release also said their plan is to make a new SW movie every two to three years, so they're definitely planning on finishing the new trilogy.

I'm also pretty sure that live action series was abandoned for the current Clone Wars cartoon. If not then they've been trying to do the live action show for seven years...

They're still working on the live action series, they're currently writing scripts and waiting for special effects technology to get cheap enough to match their vision to make a weekly show viable and still keep the Star Wars feel without looking cheap. They say the show probably won't go into production for another three years.

They also said they've got like 50-100 episodes written.

And ah, good point about what they called it in the press release. I'm sure in the end it'll be Episode VII just for consistencies sake and might have just been an oversight by the press release writer.

Oh wow, I didn't know that. I hadn't heard anything about the live action series since it was first announced.

The more I think about this, the more I'm liking it. I feel like Star Wars has been in stagnation since Episode III, and I think a legit new movie (as opposed to the CG Clone Wars movie that was really just the first three episodes of the show combined together) has the potential to revitalize the series. I mean, what I've seen of the current Clone Wars series is good, but you know, it's the Clone Wars, we've been there already.

This is assuming Episode VII is good of course...

I'm also hoping for changes at LucasArts. Ever since they switched CEOs, LA stopped giving a crap about anything that wasn't SW. I'm mostly hoping they'll finally let Telltale make another Monkey Island game.

Yeah I'm hoping for new things from LA as well! Can't wait to see if Disney brings anything new to the table.

I don't watch Clone Wars, but I've heard great things about it, but I just hope we steer away from it soon. I know it's a pivotal point of the Star Wars franchise, but jeez I'm really getting tired of it already!

Very interesting. I don't think Disney buying LucasFilm is a bad thing as HMS said, it probably won't affect the material too much. I wasn't a big fan of Episodes 1-3, but I'm all for a new trilogy. I wonder how far into the timeline it will go. They could really do anything I suppose.

What you said made me think, maybe VII could take place a very long time after VI? As in, no one from the OT is alive anymore, a clean slate basically.
