From what I've seen so far, hard mode is as close as it gets to the original NES game. I believe there were heart containers, but not near that many, and there were two hidden treasures or something so I guess that's what the heart containers replace in normal mode. And yeah, I lost on the last stage the same way several times (happened to me the first time I made it that far in the NES game too). I kept making stupid mistakes during the stage and having no extra lives by the time I was at the boss. That was the case when I beat it as well, but I managed to get through it all in one life anyway. So yeah, I'm going through hard mode now with 8-bit music and hard pogo (you have to hold down to pogo like in the original). |
