DO YOU KNOW THE KACHO?!

Game Center CX is a Japanese show where a middle-aged Japanese comedian named Arino plays old and often hard games for our amusement. He often gets help from the assistant directors (ADs) to get past particularly tricky parts.

A big grab of the show is, in addition to the games, Arino himself. His quirks and humor are a big reason why the show it so entertaining.

Most episodes are typically an hour long, though some are two-parters. In between the segments of Arino playing the episode's game, they'll also have segments where Arino visits arcades or anywhere else that has games, segments talking about old games and consoles, among other things.

There used to be a lot of fan-subbed episodes on Youtube, though Fuji TV has been cracking down on them. They're being reuploaded to Dailymotion thankfully. The first set of official English subbed DVDs are out, but this is a pretty long series and many episodes episodes aren't subbed yet.

Recommended starting episodes (In my opinion)

Donkey Kong Country (Part 2)

Sonic the Hedgehog

Clocktower

Punch-Out!!

So yeah, a great show and I highly recommend giving it a shot if you haven't! I know Einar is aware of it already and I've shown some episodes to Project: Shadow already, but I'm hoping to get other people into it!

I still haven't seen Yoshi's Island but I want to get to it soon. Oh, and if by some chance this thread manages to get a decent amount of activity, please hide whether Arino beats or quits a game behind spoilers!

I've only seen a few of the episodes. I watched them when they were subbed/dubbed for Kotaku, but those episodes cut out a lot of the filler in the episodes like when he goes out and about in Japan.

It's a pretty good series! And even spawned a good game series (that we'll unfortunately only get one of here) on the DS.

Oh yes, I neglected to mention Retro Game Master for the DS, which is indeed based off this show. I also didn't watch this until Kotaku hosted those subbed episodes, though I had actually seen a clip of the show years before I knew what it was.

I also didn't mention the Nintendo Channel episodes, which air on Nintendo Channel in Japan and are shorter than normal episodes. Here's the recent NC episode for Earthbound!

Oh that's cool! I heard about Earthbound, but I didn't know it was for the NC. Nintendo should sub it and bring it here!
