What is editing? What is editing? Films are made up of many camera angles all mashed together. Initially there are thousands, of different perspectives and shots of the movie. It is an editors job to remove some of the uneeded shots and to rearrange a lot of the shots so that they all fit in together and work in sync. Editing is very important in film as it molds the shots together to create a continuitous and smooth running movie. Editing is also used in "Special Effects," which are the added effects of a movie, such as explosions, lightning, magic, etc. How has editing developed over the years? Editing has developed much over the years. It began in ________ and was founded by ________. How is action cut? The film genre of "Action" includes fast cuts and fast paced editing, with many quick images all working in conjunction showing the same action from hundreds of different angles, in a fast paced mash up of images, with many special effects and explosions. How is suspense cut? "Suspene" is often cut the opposite of action. It is very slow and dragged out, to create and increase tension. The eyes must focus on every detail, not a millisecond is wasted. There are very littles cuts in the suspense genre and there is a lot of panning and darkness. In suspense, it is the editors job to make sure that every little detail is caught and that the viwer is left on the edge of their seat. In what way is editing seen as manipulation? In my opinion, editing is a very necesary component of todays film as it helps the audience feel and realise what exactly is going on and how they are supposed to feel at this time. It makes a film a film and any movie simply wouldn't be a movie without editing, whether it is fast paced, or slow cut |

Describe how people are influenced by advertising. In your essay you should refer to actual advertisements and made a detailed study of one magazine advertisement Advertising. This manipulating, misleading, mass manner of promoting a product is everywhere; billboards, magazines, stores, the television, our computers, the cinema – the list is endless. Everywhere we go they are bending us to their will, desperately trying to get us to empty our pockets and to finally collapse under the weight of their constant bombardment of demands. Advertising is a growth industry that creates jobs and increases profit for businesses, feeding their growth and helping them to further promote their product. Its purpose is to inform you of a product and to indoctrinate you into believing that you need this product, by playing on our most basic instincts. In a city, advertising is never far away, it permeates all aspects of society. However, the most important and influential places are within your own home; on the radio, the T.V, the computer, etc. We are more likely to remember something when we see it in the comfort of our own home. We associate the advertisements with the feeling of safety and happiness we feel when we are in our homes. This means that no matter where we are, we are trapped in an ocean of trickery. To help sell their product, organizations make an assumption that most people all similar and can be categorised into groups, such as teenagers, adults, males, females, etc, as is it too difficult to target everyone. This is called a ‘stereotype.’ Another way people are segregated is by their class, whether they are upper class, middle class or working class. Another way they attempt to help sell their product is by the use of ‘brand-names,’ such as ‘Cushelle’,’ or ‘Febreeze.’ These names often hold connotations with what they are made to do, whether is it to cleanse or even to be soft. Moreover, they use ‘slogans,’ to help to sell their product, e.g “do your thing,” “get some nuts.” These slogans are aimed at their target audience and are made to be memorable. Advertisers often play on our thoughts and feelings to appeal to our desires, some of which we didn’t even know we had. For instance, ‘McCoys,’ uses sex appeal, as their advertisements are all women in skimpy clothes play rugby. Most clothing industries use ‘celebrity endorsement,’ to suggest that if we buy their clothes we will look like the celebrity in the ad. Another appeal is the ‘appeal to fear,’ often used by beauty products, to make us believe we will seem un-attractive if we do not use their product. The ‘Maternal Paternal Instinct’ is one that plays upon our guilt and our need to protect our children, by showing us a product that will supposedly help our child in some way. |

For my essay, I will be analysing a "Nina Ricci" advertisement for a perfume. This advertisement revolves very strongly around apples. Firstly we see that the perfume bottle is in the shape of an apple. Moreover, there are apples falling out of the door behind her; this could be for many reasons. One of which is possibly that apples are very natural. Another is that they taste very sweet, possibly suggesting that the scent of the perfume is sweet. In addition, the apples are very red, shiny and round with a perfectly long and black stem, showing that they are perfect. However perfect these apples are, the models gaze seems to be set upon the apple shaped perfume bottle, that is seemingly growing from a translucent tree above. This model is the female image of perfection; she is curvy with long hair, a dress and soft features. However, she gazes hungrily at the perfume, possibly suggesting that without it, she is incomplete. //(Alice in Wonderland) |
