Who are we?

We are a small group dedicated to seeing the end of puppy farming. We promise to investigate premises that you have brought to our attention and carry out our own covert operations, sharing evidence with whoever will put it to good use. Although a new group, we pleased to announce that we are now in the process of collecting and collating evidence from our first ever investigations, and would like to thank those who have contacted us with information. As ever we will keep you constantly updated.

Following on from these investigations, should our evidence stand good, and our legal advice solid, we will have no hesitation in exposing and taking out a prosecution whether against an individual, or an organisation.

We do understand and accept that by reporting a suspected puppy farm, to the authorities, a rescue would run the risk of cutting off the life line of those ex puppy farm dogs who would normally be discarded from such an establishment. Therefore we would never risk the involvement of any rescue in the exposing of a suspected puppy farm. The best interest of the dogs is our main concern and we would never do anything to jeopardise that.

Although found throughout the UK, Wales has by far the most licensed breeding establishments in the UK. Carmarthenshire in particular has more than twice the amount of licensed breeding establishments than any other county in the UK.

Of course we’d like to see the end of puppy farming, but we have never made claim, nor are we naive or conceited enough to imagine that SPEC could ever bring about the downfall of the industry. In fact the Welsh Assembly have already stated that if a licensed breeding premises, [puppy farm], is conducting their business within the parameters’ of the Animal Welfare Act 2006, then it will be considered a legitimate business.

On the contrary, we are aiming to ensure that all breeding stock held in licensed establishments have the necessary health checks and the socialisation that should be afforded to them, in particular the stimulation and interaction that is needed between mothers’ and their off-spring’s first eight weeks of life. We feel that conditions in licensed breeding establishments should all be successfully implementing at the very least, the basic 5 Freedoms that the AWA 2006 sets out. This is, after all, the law of the land that we must all abide by.

We welcomed the findings of the Task and Finish Group and still support their recommendations. However, we have so far failed to see any actions in the implementation of said recommendations, would this be considered too early a stage to enquire how, when or even if the proposals of the Task and Finish Group are likely to be implemented or even commenced? Has there been any progress that could be reported?
We ask, because the Animal Welfare Act 2006, was put into effect in Wales on the 27th March 2007, almost 3yrs and 6mths ago, yet still we find that many breeding establishments still fall dismally short of the Act’s 5 basic requirements. Naturally, this leads us to speculate that the findings of the Task and Finish Group were simply a ‘paper exercise’, aimed more at silencing concerned parties, than to improving the lot of breeding dogs in Wales.

We are sincerely hoping to be proved wrong

"Her life will last for as long as her body manages to hold out. Litter after litter with minimal or no medical care will take its toll, and she will die, probably without having ventured more than 10 feet from the spot she was born.

The Puppy Farmer can't understand the fuss, he will say, "That isn't cruel - she knows no different". But if he really believed his words, he would allow visitors to his farm.

No, she'll die without hearing a kind word, without even feeling grass under her paws and like the majority of her kin, she has never seen the sky. She has lived her life in constant fear, that fear broken only by that very short feeling of love she lavishs onto her babies, before they are taken away from her.

Maybe she'll be one of the very few that go to a rescue, maybe her fear will lessen and she'll learn to control her bladder when a human approaches, maybe one day she'll learn how to run."
