Ladies and Gentlemen, today's edition of the Squared Circle looks at Randy Orton. The edition promised yesterday will be delivered tomorrow instead by the way, for anybody who was realised they wouldn't get to read it.

So anyway, I figured I'd start looking at certain WWE Superstars in these blogs at times when there isn't much to talk about, and today's will be one of those. Randall Orton, at this moment in time at least, is a professional wrestler working for WWE's RAW brand. Over the course of this blog, I will take a look and Randy's attitude, his in-ring work, and his mic work. Then I will look at the future for Orton, what he should do in the draft, and what feuds or angles he should be booked in over the summer season.

Firstly, Randy's attitudes out of the ring have been much publicised as he has always been the centre of the legitimate controversies and scandals of World Wrestling Entertainment. Examples of Randy's misconduct include deafecating in co-workers luggage, insulting the women on the roster, and completely trashing a hotel room in London during the most recent European tour. Many people would say Randy doesn't deserve another chance, but given he's still young, and has been working hard since the London incident, I believe WWE have made the right decision to give him one more chance. I also think, as odd as it may sound, that he could have got over very well as the classic bad-boy heel if they made his legitimate actions away from the ring part of WWE storyline, much like Joey Styles' shoot promo on RAW was based around real-life, as was Heyman vs The Network in the old ECW.

Secondly, Randy Orton's ring work at times leaves a lot to be desired. Like his friend Dave Batista over on Smackdown, Orton's ring-work is highly inconsistent. When he is having a good day, he is capable of wrestling strong, original matches with decent psychology, and can get over with WWE fans as a heel. However, when he is having a bad day, which is most of the time, his matches are sloppy, full of rest holds and deadly boring to watch, he seems incapable of showing ring psychology, and his selling of moves becomes almost non-existent. Credit to Orton though, he's been trying to have more good days than bad days since the London incident, and has upped his effort in the ring as of late, which has been good for the product.

Thirdly, there is a lot which can be said about Orton's work on the microphone, and from my perspective, its all negative. I, personally, do not enjoy listening to Orton because I find him incredibly, incredibly boring. Randy Orton playing the cowardly heel bit with the brave talking and then sneaky tactics should get over, but he doesn't because he just talks far too much about himself. Talking about yourself in an arrogant way is good, if you're an interesting person... which is exactly why it doesn't work for Orton. If anything, Orton's actions outside the ring should get him over as a heel more then his mic work. I do think he can learn to improve his promos though, and this will help him.

It looks, at this moment in time, like Randy Orton will stay on RAW as Triple H has a desire to feud with him again when he returns. Triple H is always poking his nose into the creative team's business, and as there's so much of that God-damn thing to poke, he gets his way every time. This couldn't possibly have anything to do with the fact that he's screwing the head of creative of course.... Christ I hate the politicking bullshit that goes on in this industry today. Anyway, I digress. Back on topic now to the proposed feud, I believe it could be a very solid program over the summer. Triple H is certainly better as an evil heel than a face, but Orton is certainly better as a heel, and just plain sucks as a face, so the feud is guaranteed to be better than that dull feud in 2004, and Orton's month title reign flop. I think Orton should go into a short mid-card feud with Jeff Hardy either before H's return, or after their feud. Orton could also face Ric Flair, in what could have been a quality feud; or even John Cena for the WWE Championship, although Trips will almost certainly feud with Cena after feuding with Orton.

With respect to the draft, I believe a move could open up more opportunities for Orton. Orton can easily carry ECW or SmackDown as a World Champion, but not our flagship, RAW. Drafting Orton to ECW as punishment for his actions would make sense, but theres nobody there for him to feud with apart from Bobby Lashley and CM Punk, neither of which are big money feuds. Moving Orton back to Smackdown to feud with Edge, which was hinted at during the last pay-per-view, would be a possible good idea providing Orton doesn't turn face again, and with Kennedy and Batista on Smackdown already, Orton doesn't need to go there. I, personally, would do what I believe WWE intend to do with Orton, namely, keep him on Raw.

In conclusion, what I would personally do with Randy Orton is to have him run a short feud with Jeff Hardy up until The Great American Bash. Then, I would start booking the angle with Triple H coming back to gain revenge for Michaels being taken out, culminating this around Survivor Series. After this, I believe it would be time for Orton to look for another superstar to feud with in a midcard feud, possibly Chris Benoit, who is likely to move to RAW. By the time this program, along with possibly another short feud with Ric Flair and John Cena, has finished, it should be time for Michaels to return and take out Orton, leading to some big money matches around the time of WrestleMania 24.

Well, on that note, I will wrap up this edition of The Squared Circle. After taking this look at the potential and direction for Orton, I'll be writing tomorrow about Competition to the WWE. Ciaociao!

I agree 100% on everything except for one point. No matter how hard he has been working, he does NOT deserve to be in high profile fueds as of now. I know injuries probably played a part in it but, if wwe is not gonna punish him now for what he does, then he will just keep doing it. And why not? If they release him, he knows he has a job down in Orlando. So, I would not be against a mid-card fued as of now. But not big time fueds. Great blog as always man!
