Hey everyone I'm back. If I have got a little side-tracked recently and not published the blogs according to schedule, I apologise. All the blog topics I was going to cover will be covered in the end. In this episode, I will look at the often desperate attempts to gain "Crossover fans" on both sides by putting Celebrities on Professional Wrestling Television shows and pay-per-view. I appreciate Mr McMahon has become somewhat of a celebrity again this week with his explosive end, however, I won't be mentioning him in this blog, as I'm not here to cash in on media hype and over-play ridiculous kayfabe angles. It could be said Mr McMahon's death was all in vain, as RAW's ratings stayed the same as the previous week. I am glad to report that the Chairman will not even be allowing his tragic death this week to affect his working schedule too much. He may allow himself time off to attend his own funeral Monday at 9/8c, however, with the meeting at 9am the following day, he may have to leave his own funeral early for a non-eternal sleep. I digress, enough ranting on the Genetic Grandpa and back to the purpose of this blog. This week on Smackdown, the first SummerSlam Vignettes are scheduled to air showing that Jackass will be involved at the pay-per-view. If I never mentioned that Steve-O is a talentless, unintelligent waste of air who became famous briefly through hurting himself on television.... Well, I just did, and I'm Glad I got that said. The entire Jackass crew make me want to vomit. I don't think this angle is going to attract any cross-over fans, as all the Jackass fans who would watch WWE already do, and the remaining won't order a pay-per-view for one reason. Overall, this match should be relatively pointless, much like the angle. I hope Jackass learn to sell moves before their match on SummerSham. We have seen a mass influx of random celebrities in professional wrestling, all of whom clearly do not understand the business, and have no point being there. I will refrain from even commenting on Kevin Federline's New Year match on RAW when he spent more time dressing and undressing in the ring than he did competing, and ended up beating the World Champion anyway. Luckily, unlike Vince Russo's crazy booking in WCW, This was a non-title match, which meant we were gratuitously spared a repeat of David Arquette winning the World Championship. Of course there are fans out there who'd say Arquette was still a better champion than Dave Batista, and I believe they may have a point. Nonetheless, Universal Movies would never cast Gobbeldy Gooker in a leading role, so casting an actor as a world champion could never make sense. I know that may be unfair, as Gobbeldy Gooker was never exactly considered a top guy here in the WWE (something about a bad gimmick some smarks say?), but mind you, would a self-respecting movie studio even hire The Rock or Stone Cold these days? Especially if they want to make more than $7million sales revenue? Of course, sometimes use of Celebrities in Professional Wrestling is useful for gaining huge national publicity for a massive show. Mike Tyson working with the World Wrestling Federation led to enormous media hype, and was great for the company. The same could be said at WrestleMania 23, when there was hell toupee as Donald Trump and his apprentice Bobby Lashley defeated the late Mr McMahon and the even later Umaga. With this being said, I think the only time Jackass have gained national media publicity is when they're being sued over something. I genuinely see this angle falling flatter than the Trump combover within a few weeks of starting it, I mean, I don't know anybody who is interested in Jackass anymore. Well actually, I do, but I think he might secretly be a psychopath. Besides, do we need more celebrities in the WWE after McMahon appreciation night?! On a Raw littered with Celebrity Vignettes, few, if any, were even vaguely entertaining. Why the hell was Snoop Dogg on the show, does he even know who Mr McMahon is?! I really do wonder at times where they drag the C-list celebrities up from for the shows..... Timberl-who?! In conclusion, I think they should bring Mr. T back into the World Wrestling Federation for the first time in about 20 years for a cameo appearance. Aww come on WWE, why not, at least he can survive carbombs.... |
