Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the first (and shortest) blog of the day, and this blog will be Rated R! I figured that with everything Edge has been upto recently, it would make sense to do a blog looking at Adam Copeland. After moving to WWE Smackdown on May 11th at a television taping, and winning the World Championship on his debut; Edge's career has relaunched itself into the stratusphere and he looks set to become one of the all-time huge stars of the pro wrestling business.

Firstly, Edge's character has really, really developed since winning the WWE Championship at New Years Revolution. It may have been possible that, much like John Layfield, nobody ever seen Edge as being a World-Championship quality character at the time he was making success in the tag team division during the attitude era. Whilst it may say something about the drop in form since the attitude era that has allowed superstars like Edge to get the shot they previously never would have, Edge's controversial championship reign helped some of the attitude era edginess back into RAW programming. Live Sex Celebrations?!

Incidentally, I really enjoyed Edge's push to WWE Champion in January 2006, and I still maintain that it was bad booking on Triple H....sorry...WWE Creative's part to have him lose the belt 22 days later at the Royal Rumble. Edge gave a fresh feel to RAW... an upbeat and risque edge to storylines, and some solid wrestling matches. The feuds with John Cena were very, very entertaining, with some stand-out matches at Summerslam, a match of the year candidate at Unforgiven, and an amazing climax in a steel cage on an October edition of RAW Live from Topeka, Kansas. Edge is clearly built to carry a live broadcast, and as such, I always believed his talents may be under-used on a taped television show.

Don't get me wrong, some superstars do benefit from appearing on taped television, such as Khali, because his work needs a lot of post-production. Edge, however, would be so much better on a live show, as there are a shortage of wrestlers able to carry live television, pretty much anybody on a WWE roster can carry a taped television show. That's not to say that Edge shouldn't have been moved to Smackdown. With the recent plague of injuries that has hit Smackdown, it seemed logical to move a main-eventer to Smackdown to take the title and carry the broadcast. The problem is, with Benoit gone and Smackdown's apparant lack of main-event signings in the draft, it seems Edge is expected to work with Batista for the next few months..... and this obviously can't happen if Edge retains the title at Vengeance.

If Edge does lose the title at Vengeance, many would argue his most recent move and title reign has been a failure; however, it makes sense to have Edge chasing the title for a while and eventually winning it back, just to shake up the angles we see on Smackdown. Edge is the only true top-quality main-eventer on the show at the moment, assuming Ric Flair is no longer a main-event star despite 16 world championships. Simply, the lack of main-event depth now on Smackdown compared to RAW after the draft has left Edge in a compromised position... based on the lack of high-profile storylines for him to take on and carry the show..... How long can this era of SmackDown continue to be Rated R??? :(
