If you stopped reading, then you missed the part where I complimented them for their writing and their dedication to making their worlds interesting, which was probably the most important part of the post. As far as actual developing goes, Bethesda is middle of the road. As I said, their games are always buggy, character animations suck, characters themselves look like crap, and the list goes on. I very much enjoy Bethesda's games (played the shit out of Morrowind, Oblivion, and Fallout 3), but acting like they are an amazing developer is a bit over the top. They are a mediocre developer who does a good job developing time-sink games. We play Bethesda games for the writing and the overall atmosphere of their worlds, not the gameplay, which is almost always average or worse. The biggest compliment I can give the gameplay in Fallout 3 is that VATS made the combat actually playable. That's about as far as it goes. Also, whoever brought up Vegas is stupid. That wasn't Bethesda, but it definitely was buggy as shit. And Bethesda didn't pioneer the Western RPG. They didn't even popularize it. Stop saying stupid shit like that if you really want your opinions to hold water, and try playing a game that's more than five years old while you're at it. You might learn a thing or two. |

Bethesda has always released unpolished games and let the mod community fix it. And thats fine really, better that way then spening months on additional playtesting. My only concern with TESV at this point, is whether they'll release a Construction Set with the new engine or not. They most likely will, but you never know. |

I don't think they will. Instead they'll make every DLC update official and cost money. That's how companies like Bethesda do it nowadays. |

I don't care about PC crap, but I wouldn't overestimate how much any dev really cares about it's community. Especially about things they know they can get away with. |

I think Bethesda knows what their fans want, and they cant get away with making it difficult to mod. Mods are pretty much the only reason people are still buying and playing Morrowind, Oblivion and Fallout 3. |

I'm sure Bethesda knows what their fans want, but I'm not sure they'll give a shit. Besides, they'll make ten times the money on the console version anyway (probably more). They'll likely just be another in a long line of companies that stops giving a shit about their fans and starts giving a shit about their bottom line. |

Perks? IN MY ELDER SCROLLS!?! Fucking Fallout. Graphics are pretty, though. Also: Deep beneath the Nord ruins, you've found catacombs that stretch into the frigid darkness, filled with unspeakable dangers. In one room coated with webbing, a boulder-sized spider lowers itself into the chamber, chittering and clacking its mandibles. -Game Informer Fucking awesome. *EDIT* Here is some info gathered from the articles (as posted by someone on Something Awful): Confirmed Features: -2-handed weapons and duel wielding confirmed. -A variation of level scaling. -18 skills. -Perk picking at every level-up -Finishing moves, unique to each weapon and enemy you fight. -Dynamic Shadows -Kids -Overhauled Combat-system Example Dual wielding spells, able to pick diffrent spells for each hand, or put the same in both for a more powerful effect.) -5 Major Cities -Improved Faces/Improved Models Example: Faces have been dramatically overhauled. Characters now exhibit more emotion show of distinctions between different races and just plain looks better. -Updated Engine Snow falls dynamically (not as a basic texture on the ground) Trees and branches move independently with the wind Water flows and huge draw distances ! -The Hero has a mentor: His name is Esbern and Voiced by Mark Von Sydow (Surviving Blade) -The game takes place 2 centuries after Oblivion -Initiating a conversation between a NPC no longer zooms: Quote (Conversations aren't done in a zoomed in static shot anymore. Start a conversation with some and they will act like someone would in real life, looking at you occasionally and walking around a bit and also continue doing a task if they were doing one while talking.) -Sprint is added ! -Randomly generated quests. -Beards - Dialog will pop up when you approach an enemy - You can't run backwards as fast as you do forward. - 10 races to choose from - confirmed creatures: zombies, skeletons, trolls, giants, ice wraiths, giant spiders, dragons, wolves, horses, Elk, mammoth, saber-toothed cats - cooking/farming/mining/woodcutting/blacksmithing -Hud-free first-person view and improved third-person perspective -5 Magic Schools Destruction Alteration Conjuration Restoration Illusion. (Alchemy Enchant (now added) are not magic schools (?) ) -very unique landscapes! Also unique dungeons! In other words, lots of uniqueness! -Character creation improved, body features customizable -Plot: The plot is that you are possibly the last Dragonborn, a group characterized by their ability to hunt dragons. The Septim line was a prominent Dragonborn line protected by the Dragonguards which eventually became the blades. After the death of the Septim line, the Blades were hunted down and killed one by one and now are almost completely gone. The return of the dragons was foretold in the Elder Scrolls and was ushered in by the destruction of the Staff of Chaos, the creation of the Numidium, the events at Red Mountain and the Oblivion Crisis. The last event to unfold before the dragons return was the people of Skyrim turning against each other which is happening at the beginning of the game. Dragons start to appear in greater and greater numbers as the game goes on and will eventually culminate with Alduin possibly coming into the world, but we have no idea yet. -Combat: The combat system has once again been overhauled. Now you may choose what you place in each hand, whether it be a sword and shield, dagger and sword, two swords or even a weapon in one hand and a spell in another. Assaulting with your shield is now apart of melee combat, being able to shield bash them to stagger them to give yourself an advantage in combat. Spells can now be dedicated to a certain hand meaning you can fight with your left hand aflame while your right hand is charged with lightning. Ranged combat has been improved by increasing the damage bows deal significantly, so much so that it is possible for one to one shot an npc from stealth but also so the draw time of your bow has been increased. Ranged combat shouldn't be able to be abused from stealth like in Oblivion due to the fact that NPCs are FAR more intelligent than any TES game ever and possibly any game to date, we shall see. |

Why do I get the feeling this hyper-intelligent NPC business will just end up being cheap AI that can see in the dark. |

On quests: Quests are much more dynamic now. The quests are now more determined by how you build your chracter, individual actions and overall much more dynamic. Examples provided: If you are more of a magic user, some other mage may approach you who may not have had if you were just a melee character. Or if you killed some dude who owned a store that was gonna give you a quest, his sister would inherit the store, but she may resent you before giving you the quest. Also, if you drop a weapon in the street instead of selling it, it may just dissapear, some kid may get it and give it back to you, which would lead to a series of stuff, or some dudes may fight over who gets it. Also, it said that the quests you are given would be modified by how you have played (I guess like scaling the quests). For example, the location of a rescue mission would be determined by which location you have visited (it will try to give you a dungeon you haven't been in) and I guess also giving you appropiate enemies to your level. |
