ah nope literally once you encountered the aliens who faked dead and sprang up at you, you had pretty much encountered 90% of the games scare tactics. The only really good one was the tentacle that grabbed you, but they used that like 4 times so it too wore off fast. |

Started playing 1 last night. Reaaallllly well done game. They should have, imo just limited it to one weapon that you upgrade a couple of times (Metroid-ish) and really keep you scrounging for ammo. The thing that kept me playing well into the night wasn't the scares (although the violence is brutal great) but the tension created by the threat of violence. And if playing re5 has taught me anything it was that I am willing to play though a mediocre at best game if there is a certain amount of well-placed tension. One thing that pisses me the fuck off though is how the alien gibs gain super-physics after they die. They flop around for like 10 minutes after you kill something as if the devs were thinking "it will make noises and players will not know where it comes from and that will in turn be scary (HEY IT WORKED FOR BIOSHOCK)" when in actuality I'm just wondering why the aliens were made of something acting like a combination of marshmallow and rubber bands. Every time a gib gets stuck in a door on on my foot I just start thinking "why the fuck would the devs do this it was such a bad idea" and it yanks me out of the game. All in all though, the way they integrated story elements (video/audio/text) and all the menus in game instead of a traditional pause menu is fantastic. There are a lot of small design choices they got right, and I hope they don't fuck up 2. |
