Excuse me, definitive horror game of this console generation, I WILL NEVER PLAY AMNESIA, CAUSE THAT SHIT IS FUCKED. I was not scared in Dead Space, I was defiantly tense, but real horror seems to be a hard sell and this kind of action/horror hybrid is more popular, so the chances of getting a tipple-a straight horror game is unlikely for any console developer. In closing, Amnesia may be the scariest thing ever, that game is fucked. |

Almost stopped playing Amnesia when i caught a glimpse of the first monster down the hall and couldnt find the fucker when i looked EVERYWHERE! then the walls started spewing red tumors that hurt you, and then the fucking skull i ran into in a desk almost gave me a heart attack. not to mention you cant fight back at all, so when you do see a monster you can only sit and pray to god it doesnt stab out of nowhere when you turn a corner. Any way i agree with the Huey guy |

honestly, i didn't think amnesia was scary at all. Only things to scare me are The book Red Road from Stalingrad My Girlfriend saying my grandfather was home downstairs even though he lived across the state at the time and was not in town. Cleaning my aunts attic all day long then goin up there the next and it being completely trashed with all the doors and windows locked. Small spaces Spiders 99% of all Stephen King books/movies. Specifically the book/movie IT. Tim Curry did one of the most amazing jobs in making me shit my pants every 7 seconds through entire movie. Every movie he did after I felt scared too see him. Even in home alone 2 ![]() Dream I have at least once a year since I was 5 where a terminator was after me and no matter what I did to him he wouldn't die. |

Just finished Dead Space 2 earlier this morning. My final verdict is: "MEH" Pros: +Pretty visuals and nice lighting. +Solid combat with some fun and unique (although not terribly useful) weapons. +A couple of awesome set-piece moments. +Expanded weapon upgrade trees are fun and make a difference. +Has a New Game Plus feature. +Dozens of hilarious death scenes to punish you for all your minor fuck ups. Cons: -Literally no good or epic boss fights. -Seriously, no boss fights except for a lame one at the end (although if you fail the cut-scene is pretty funny). -Repetitive. Once you've played the first three hours, you've seen just about all the game has to show you, and the rest is just bigger rooms with extra waves of enemies. -Not scary. This game isn't really survival horror any more. It's an action game with "attempt to make the player jump by dropping an enemy right in front of him" moments. -Front loaded. Most of the coolest moments are in the first half of the game, including an awesome fight where you are hanging upside down and immobile. -Bad last two chapters. More annoying and occasionally frustrating than fun. Decent game, but it seems like they removed most of the stuff that made the first game unique and memorable and turned it into another dull action game that consists primarily of fighting wave after wave of enemies that happen to be vaguely horror-related. Worth a rental, not a buy. |

I like to call it "The EA effect". Whenever EA gets their hands on a really, really good title with a future (Mass Effect, Dead Space, Dragon Age), the sequel never really lives up to it's predecessor's glory. That's not to say they aren't great games, but they don't live up to the expectations we give them. That, and they cut the good stuff (story) to "improve the gameplay". That's all speculation, but looking at the titles i've listed, I've noticed a pattern. |

Maybe, but Mass Effect 2 was totally better than the first game. The story in the original was kind of ripped off, the combat was horrible, the planetary sidequests were laughably bad, the engine was terribly optimized, and the load times were a joke. Really, the only thing the original Mass Effect had going for it was a cool sci-fi story, and even the basics of that were, as I said above, ripped from a combination of KOTOR (which was a previous BioWare game, but still) and the Revelation Space novel universe. The second game actually made the combat fun. The sidequests were unique and actually involved more than driving a vehicle with shitty controls around a desolate wasteland. The story was still solid, even if the final boss kind of sucked. The engine was optimized and load times were much less frequent (no ten-minute-long elevator rides in this sequel, kids). Basically the entire game was better except for a few minor story hiccups, but overall the writing was still great and the side characters and their quests were interesting. I'll give you Dragon Age, though. |

My guess is that Bioware had the majority of ME2 done already before EA swooped in. ME3 is my biggest concern this year in terms of new games coming out. |
