Good game. Open world is pointless. Should have been a linear game where you just go from crime scene to crime scene and pick your next location out of your location guide. Then they could have made the game better-looking and not been restricted by the shitty GTA IV physics system, or as I like to call it, the NOFUN Engine. I mean, don't get me wrong, it's super fun to drive around a giant city where you are totally unable to kill anyone, use any guns (unless there is a perp nearby, but don't worry, there won't be), or cause any legitimate damage to buildings or scenery. I feel like a fucking savant though because I always figure out who did it and why half an hour before the detectives. In their defense, though, they probably haven't seen LA Confidential, The Shield, The Wire, and half of the other cop shows and movies known to man. |

I'm pretty sure those tv shows weren't available in the 40's, when the game takes place. |

It's a fun game, but it lacks polish and the open world aspect is completely pointless and tiresome. The only things you can do in the city are take care of street crimes, which are pretty much the same event encountered over and over from what I can tell so far, and drive to your next location in one of a handful of cars that also look and perform almost exactly the same. They should have made it linear, used a different engine, dropped the filler and focused more on the shit that actually mattered, because the game feels kind of stiff and awkward as it is, like it's trying really hard to be something it's not. It's basically the same trap No More Heroes fell into. The awesome parts of the game are undermined by all the bullshit. Not enough to make it unenjoyable, but enough to make you think "damn, this could have been something so much better". Not worth $60 IMO. Also, has anybody else been creeped the fuck out by the faces in this game? Talk about uncanny valley. The animations are awesome though, and some of the expressions the characters make during the interrogation sequences are fucking hilarious. I don't think I've ever been more amused by the faces in a game. |

Great game. It's pretty awesome to see a blockbuster adventure title in 2011. Ending could've been better though. |

I think a lot of people are just going to buy this game with expectations in their head, that it should just be GTA in the 50's. I applaud Team Bondi for making you abide by the law, and be a cop. The open world is a great setting (kind of like Mafia II) why should it be anything more? Personally stupid mini games and being able to shoot anyone without any real consequences would not have added anything to this game. |

It sure as hell feels like the GTA engine. Regardless, controlling your character is more of a chore than it needs to be, just like it was in GTA. He feels kind of like a tank, turns awkwardly, and it can occasionally be a burden to stop at the appropriate place to pick up a piece of evidence.
See, here's the thing. I don't have a problem with being forced to abide by the law, but I do have a problem with a huge aspect of a game being pointless and not fun. The open world in LA Noire just isn't fun. There is literally nothing to do in it. It serves no purpose other than a kind of cool recreation of 1949 Los Angeles. The point is, the game would have been totally better had they completely removed the open world aspect and just let you choose where you wanted to go next and transported you there automatically. Removing the open world would have streamlined the game and made it a lot more fun. And I was under no delusions that this was GTA in 1949. I read a ton of previews and watched several video reviews prior to getting the game. I knew what I was getting into. All of those reviewers also bashed the open world portion of the game, and they were 100% correct in doing so. |

having not played the game yet, from what ive seen and heard i do agree with you on that. if they made it more sectional they could have made the word detail on those parts better and had better art assets instead of spending all their time remaking an accurate 1949 la. but to their credit you can actually just chose to transport where you want to go. |
