Aaron looked around the small shipyard in disgust. There was nothing here either. What a worthless scrap heap it was! He turned to the sales man, slapping on his most friendly grin, and shook his head. "I'm sorry, there's nothing that interests me here." The salesman nodded, looking a bit disappointed that Aaron hadn't bought anything. Perhaps the balding shipyard owner thought Aaron was someone to be swindled, just another kid looking for a cheap ride. If he thought that he was wrong. Aaron knew enough about ships that he was pretty well confidant that he could build one from scratch. Unfortunate "pretty well confidant" is not quite enough when one is planning on flying into the vacuum of space, and Aaron wanted a ship that would hold it's own. What he would do with it, where he would go, he didn't yet know...

He turned a sharp right into the nearest bar. He'd been to half the shipyards in town, and he planned on doing the second half the next day. For the time being he decided to get a few drinks and perhaps interview perspective crews. He went to the bar, sat on a stool at the place that he judged to be the center of the bar (a place most of the other patrons had strangely left alone), and ordered a scotch. He made a point to always open with something strong and then tone it back as the night wore on.

Nikolai let out a deep sigh as he walked out of yet another meeting area, prospects of a good crew foiled by yet another group of bumbling idiots who called themselves "experts". He had one more place to go too, after a long morning of searching. a bar, closest to the hotel he was staying at. He walked in, black leather trench-coat falling around his knees, and sat down at a stool near the center, next to a lean, shorter man, with a genial look about him, and ordered an ale. He tried to start a conversation, to tell whether or not this man was what he was seeking in a business partner, or not. *eyeing the scotch.* "Long day already, mister...?"

Adelle trotted happily off the ship. She'd just finished helping to unload the cargo of rare parrots that the captain was transporting for trade. It was her free time now, the best part of any trip off-planet and away from the dark musty bookstore that was her day job.
First things first, a little shopping. She walked to the nearby marketplace and started browsing the cheap jewelery. Nothing good in the metal department, but there was some fairly decent leather stuff further along. She selected two inexpensive, but sturdy, braided leather bracelets, one for each wrist, and paid for them. They fit well and could be used to hide the two small tattoos on the underside of each of her wrists, until the design ate away at the leather, but she'd worry about that later, as always.
She spotted her favorite bar and headed toward it instinctively, pausing on the way to look at some guns a merchant displayed, he did the usual double take when he saw her eyes and she gave the weapons only a cursory inspection. They were cheap, no good. Persephone wasn't her favorite planet, but she'd made friends with some of the locals and they were frequently found in the bar. Stepping inside and blinking until her eyes adjusted to the darker interior she made a beeline for her normal stool in the middle of the bar... only to find it already occupied by a fellow she didn't recognize talking to another stranger. She went over and stood politely by his shoulder, waiting until one of them looked up. When his companion noticed her he stopped talking and the other turned to see what he was looking at. "Excuse me," she said, with her most winning smile, "you seem to be in my spot. You see, this is where I always sit. Ask the bartender."

Nikolai flusters, confused at this abrupt cutting off, but recovers quickly. *smiles* "oh is it? I had no idea, I'm new around here, you see, just passing through, looking for a crew to help me find the right ship, you know. aah, yes, much apologies miss..." *grabs ale, gets up, and moves to stool on other side of man* "neither of you would happen to know of any good crews or captains, would you? I'm lookin' for a place on a boat, my own reasons, you know..." his voice trails off, as he stares off into the distance for a second.

*Smiling even more sweetly* "All's forgiven if you buy me a drink" *sliding onto her seat* "And why are you looking for a ship?" *eyeing Nikolai suspiciously.* "You get thrown off your old one? Who were you working for?"

Aaron, deep in his thoughts, barely noticed when the man sat down next to him. He swirled the ice around in the bottom of his glass, then realizing he'd been spoken to, looked up with a nod. He was about to elaborate, always ready to share his trouble with someone else, when a woman walked in and without any preamble informed the taller man he was in her seat. Aaron watched the exchange with a bemused expression, the ghost of a smile flitting across his face. As the seating arraignments were shuffled about around him he took a sip of his scotch and set it back down with a slight clink.

When the other man asked about a boat Aaron opened his mouth to answer, not even considering the fact that he didn't, in fact, have a ship yet. But it didn't particularly matter because the woman fired off a trio questions in rapid succession. They were good questions, ones he would never have thought to ask, so rather than add his own to the pot he just listened. Aaron hooked his feet into the bottom rung of the barstool and leaned back a bit to better facilitate the conversation between his two sudden companions. In his newly found reclined position he sized them up, noticing with some surprise that the woman had mismatched eyes. He tried not to stare, but probably did anyway. By way of apology he turned his gaze on the man who looked rather ordinary all things considered.

"Drinks are on me," He said after a moments thought, and with a grin that could win over a rabid dog. He had decided that he liked these two, and people he liked were well deserving of a drink.

Nikolai sighed and took a swig of ale, after the slew of questions that were thrown at him. He wasn't sure if he could trust these people yet, the irritating woman and the suspiciously quiet man. But seeing as how he needed a ship......"I work for no one but myself. I just recently finished my doctorate in foreign languages on Beaumonde. I lived with my uncle Frederick there. He was with the Browncoats, but came up with a crippled leg, and missed most of the war. he taught me....small skills. He said I needed to be ready, in case anything happened. But after I left school, I wanted to help the little resistance there was after the war. so here I am, took a civilian ship from Beaumonde, which landed me here." he halts at this point, looks around, and lowers his voice. "I want to turn a profit against The Alliance, and I'm just looking for the right business partners. I've got money, I can bankroll us for whatever we need, well heheh my cash isn't endless, obviously..." He sits back, and raises his voice again. "but I can afford a ship, if need be." he turns to the man. "Sir, thank you for the drinks, but you have been awful quiet. what brings you here? for your accent is not from Persephone, and you have the look of a spacefarer about you."

"Now wait just a minute here sir. You want to turn a profit against the Alliance? Sounds to me like you're looking for a whole boatload of trouble. You got nothing better to do Mr...?"

"I wasn't asking for your help, girl, if that's your state of mind. And the names Nikolai, just Nikolai for now," He says irritatedly. it looks as if he's had a long morning.

Adelle grinned. This Nikolai was obviously feeling grouchy, and grouchy people were so much fun. "Keep your shirt on Mister Nikolai. Can't blame girl for being curious. Now, I do believe you were interrogating our friend over here so" she turned to the other man, "first off, thanks for the drinks. Fire away Nikolai"

Aaron opened his mouth to reply again, but closed it just as quickly and instead merely nodded with a slight smile as Nikolai thanked him for the drinks. Then he decided to watch the show as the woman continued her interrogation. He tried to hide a smile as her questions got the persnickety man's dander up. By the time the man now known as Nikolai had finished speaking Aaron was leaning further back in his chair, as if facing a strong wind. When his tirade was up Aaron sat back up on his stool, his back straight as a ramrod. He nodded acknowledgment for her thanks and then, being caught in between the two of them, he began addressing the nonplussed barman.

"I'm Aaron James, jack-of-all-trades, deckhand, and most recently prospective captain..." He looked meaningfully at Nikolai as he spoke, obviously trying to make a point. After only a fleeting moment he turned to the woman, "And now that we've introduced ourselves, what might your story be, m'am? And perhaps your name too, unless you prefer m'am..."

"Me? I'm just a lowly bookseller. I work in a shop that hasn't even broken even for 5 years. My boss is convinced that one day everyone will realize the Alliance is controlling us through computers and turn back to paper. Me, I just like the paycheck. Gets boring though, which is why I come hang out in bars and talk to strange men. Name's Adelle, pleased to meet you..."

Aaron chuckled, "I tend towards books myself, something about the feeling of paper, I don't know..." For a moment he got a far away look in his eyes and a blissful look stole across his face. "Pleased to meet you Adelle," He said, collecting himself. Then he turned to look at Nickolai again, then back to Adelle. "What say we move over here? I'm liable to give myself a broken neck if I have to keep turning back and forth between you." He stood and went to a small table next to the wall, there were three chairs conveniently and evenly spaced around it. Aaron took the one that placed him with his back to the bar and motioned for the others to join him.

Nikolai sighs again, after his outburst. He had no idea it'd be this hard finding a crew. It seemed as if everyone was scared of The Alliance. Nikolai listened to the proceedings between the woman, Adelle, and the man, Aaron interestedly. He straightened right up when the man said he was looking to be a captain. He moved over to the table when the man offered, sizing him up the whole time. he seemed to be quite capable, with much experience, and a light heart, which made quite a difference. he wasn't too sure about the woman quite yet though. he sat in the chair, and spoke up again. "listen, sorry about that, I've had a long morning and it doesn't seem I can take another no. I just feel so frustrated, everyone is so scared of the Alliance, I say we bring it to them. The way they control.....with such power...it's terrible. I don't know, maybe I'm naive, but I don't care, I want to do something useful in my life, not just sit around and study the writings of some Earth-that-was poet or something. and too tell you the truth, you two are the most promising people I've found all morning." he had honest truth in his eyes, as he took another sip of his ale, and sat back, looking at the other two interestedly. "you said you work at a book shop? how interesting......" brow furrowed, thinking hard, staring fixedly at the woman's differently colored eyes, seemingly just noticing them.

Adelle grabbed her drink and settled down at the new table warily. She always sat at the bar, always. Oh well, the intrigue was worth it. The Aaron fellow seemed nice and easy going, Nikolai was obviously stressed out, but she decided to needle him a bit more regardless. "One morning of searching and you're already frustrated? You're gonna need more patience than that to take down the Alliance, my fine fellow. What exactly's got you so worked up about the Feds anyway? I understand a bit of family dislike, and I can't say I'm entirely on board with their style myself, but it takes more than a resentful father to trigger a career based on the idea of a coup d'état. Or do I run ahead of you?"

Damn... that last bit had sounded far too polished. Generally she tried to keep her speaking style nice and blended with the local accents of whichever planet she was visiting. Usually a bit of a twang and some dropped Gs did the trick. However, when she got really interested in a conversation, or if she started to relax around a group, she started to slip into the polished, slightly lilting tones of the upper class that had been so thoroughly trained into her in the Companion school. She had to watch herself. There was no guarantee these men were trustworthy, all appearances of friendliness aside, and it wouldn't do to have them questioning her background too much just yet.
