As Nikolai and James began a discussion of ships, which was also, she guessed, a subtle sort of man-to-man test, Adelle began to lose her interest. Looking around the shipyard she was just thinking about going to find something to eat, since apparently the two men weren't going anywhere anytime soon, when movement caught her eye. On the perimeter of the yard, hovering around a ship that completely dwarfed him, was a man dressed in the type of core clothing that Adelle hadn't seen in months. He definitely looked out of place, and possibly a little uncomfortable, though loath to admit it. After a couple seconds hesitation, Adelle looked back at Nikolai and James, shoved her hands in her pockets, and started ambling toward the stranger. "Hey there," she half-shouted across to him, "what's a fine gentleman like yourself doing around here? Looking to get rid of those troublesome rich folk drapes? 'cause you sure came to the right place to get mugged real fast." |

Apollo turned around quickly and glanced left and right. Finding no muggers he turned back around to face the woman sheepishly and absently rubbed the back of his neck. Conversing over this distance was unheard of back in the core, not to mention improper. Apollo favored the friendly woman with a shy smile as he approached her. "Um, I wasn't planning on selling them if that's what you mean. I was just looking for a ship. I would very much like to leave this planet. I do not have any particular destination in mind... I'm just looking for a good ship. Something safe or uh," He stared down at his shoe as if embarassed, "um... as safe as 50 plat can afford me..." He looked back up to meet her mismatched eyes and said, "I suppose I could barter some of my clothing and skill to supplement my fare." |

((OOC: Fifty plats is a lot, right? I have no idea, for the sake of my post I shall say it is. Correct me at your leisure)) Aaron turned suddenly upon hearing an inordinate amount of money mentioned. Fifty plats might have been as much as he'd ever had at once, but Aaron highly doubted that. He turned to see the dandy that Adelle was speaking with, he clearly didn't understand what he'd just said. Perhaps where he was from fifty was nothing... Aaron took another look at the somewhat dilapidated ships that stood before him, did a few quick calculations. That sleek one, the dragonfly class with the sooty black marks on her hull, she was probably worth fifty plats. Actually, probably a lot less, it was junk but it would fly therefore the salesman would squeeze every penny he could get. He half turned and attempted to subtly catch Adelle's eye. The green one, he decided with an amused smile. If she could sweet talk the dandy into paying for a ship... |

Nikolai watched Aaron's reaction with interest. Obviously he was from a rather poor family, but he could have guessed that, fifty plats was nothing- a mere 12 and a half credits. Not wanting to start anything embarrassing he quickly intervened, his slick voice working fast. "heh, you must be new around here too, my friend. we were just looking to buy a ship-or should I say I was, with their help, of course-, and we still have need of crew, would you perhaps know of anyone who'd be interested? The name's Nikolai," Nikolai shakes his hand, firm and strong, and then looks behind, seemingly just noticing Adelle again. "oh, and it appears you've already met our friend Adelle here! wonderful, wonderful. and your name is, my kind sir..?" he looked him straight in the eyes, waiting for a response. Maybe things were looking up today, Nikolai thought. Yet again, he'd met someone who looked like they might possibly be interested in some ship faring. He thought back on a completely different subject, worrying about whether his slip about work on Ariel had been noticed by anyone. If it were his choice, he'd rather wait to divulge those certain skills when he knew he could trust them more. He wasn't quite sure why, but he thought it'd be best if he kept it safe, for a little longer though. right now he had to focus on this interesting person that seemed to have popped up from nowhere. |

"I'm Mr. Roberts," Apollo replied somewhat stiffly. "Uh, but you may call me Apollo." A bit if an awkward silence stretched between them as Apollo thought about exactly what he should tell the strangers. He'd learned quickly that many people out here on the raggedy edge were like predators, so the last thing Ashley 'Apollo' Roberts wanted to do was appear weak. "I wasn't, um, looking to join crew per say, but honest work is hard to come by out here. I suppose I will consider the offer. That is, um, as long as the ship in question isn't some luh suh flying deathtrap." Apollo stood a little straighter and said, "I can barter some of my possessions and my skill to pay my fare at any rate." |

Adelle hated awkward pauses with a passion, Nikolai's conversations always seemed to be a minefield of them. "Right then!" she said, clapping her hands. "Sounds like we all have a common interest and I'd say from a quick look 'round we're all on the same side provided we all want to survive. Now we just gotta pool our resources and buy a damned ship. What sorts of skills do you have that you may barter my dear Mr. Apollo?" |

Apollo was surprised by the bluntness of the woman's speech, as well as its apparent severity to merit a swear word, not the she sounded the least bit unfriendly. He laughed, sounding a mite less nervous now. "Please, just 'Apollo' is plenty well enough. I have studied music and the arts extensively and am an excellent dancer. I'm also a talented archer and know my way around a sword and...and um, a pistol." Apollo's voice tapered off and he began to look very uncomfortable again. He shook his head as if to clear it and pressed onward. "Um... not that that is particularly relevant to this supposed venture." Apollo thought for a moment and spoke again, "I've had a rather well rounded core education but I find much of what I have learned useless out here on the rim. However, I have a decent grasp of commerce law and I'm good with numbers." Apollo thought a moment on how much more to say of his skills before deciding he was desperate enough to at least hint at his less than legal talents. "I have a light step, a gentle touch and I excel at, um... calligraphy... I guess you could call it, especially when um... dealing with official documents." He laughed and continued, "This may come as a purprise to you, but I'm actully quite good at dealing with people. At least, I am in more formal settings." Aaron, having joined the other two with a slight smirk on his face for Dandy Apollo, nodded as the man described his skill set. "Well, if we happen to need an archer, a dancer, or a fencer it's good to know you've got our backs." His tone was sardonic, but the smile that gallivanted around his lips betrayed his sarcasm. He only hoped that Apollo would understand sarcasm. Aaron had a nagging feeling that he might not. "But to be blunt," He shifted almost imperceptibly in to a more businesslike manner of speech. It was habit he'd picked up at some point. People tended to react much better when they were talked to in a familiar way. In this case it seemed that Dandy would be more receptive to an attempt at a business deal. "Your skills don't really sound like they'll help us too much. You see, it's not so much that we need payment for your passage... It's more that we need payment for the actual ship, because we don't actually own one..." He gestured at the dubious looking lineup around them, then looked meaningfully at Apollo, "Perhaps you could front us the sum required to purchase such a thing? Or perhaps you could simply pick up a pen and draw us a bill of sale." This last was said in the joking manner that Aaron had often observed the rich using with each other. The tone, the timing, it was all perfectly laid to elicit a polite, but insincere laugh. |

((OOC whoever's the DM equivalent, just let me know if I'm goin' too far. I don't want to take over your story)) Apollo sighed almost dejectedly and said, "If I were not on a rim I would be wealthy, having access to my trust fund and electronic assests... but out here everything is done in platinum. Everything except an excessively large purchase such as land, a building or..." Apollo's eyes lit up as he seemed to catch up to Aaron's line of thinking, "Or a ship. If they are able process electronic transactions... I suppose with a crew I could become an entrepreneur. Only... I really don't know much about transports..." |

((OOC: There is no DM... The story builds itself based on what we do. It's quite different from a pen and paper game. There is no storyline, anything can happen.)) Aaron nodded eagerly, Dandy was a quick one that was sure. How quick? Aaron wasn't above testing him. "I'm not sure about this du- Establishment." He looked around narrowly at the ships that surrounded them, "But some of the nicer ones will definitely take credit." A little shove in the right direction, maybe not a subtle shove but how did one shove someone subtly anyway? "I know a bit about ships, I've been sailing for a while." He added with a smile, "I'm sure I could find just what you're looking for." And that was it, Aaron hoped he had just set Apollo on the path from passenger to investor. |

"Oh, well that's certainly good news," Apollo said with enthusiasm and a bit of humor, "Um... I don't suppose you know what I'm looking for?" Apollo thought on it a moment and said, "Or... or maybe I should ask you what you are looking for. You have experience sailing the black. What kind of ship would be a good investment and how would be make money? I suppose I would be willing to front the credit, if I am able to, if you all could provide the skill. I'll know more as I learn on the job..." Apollo hesitated a moment and added, "but I want something safe and um...this may sound strange but... preferably without too many large windows... Except where needed of course... for um... with the piloting..." |

Nikolai thought this very strange that Aaron was trying to get this man to pay for the ship when he already had said he would, seeing as he had quite are fair amount of money. he didn't want to be budged out of a deal.....but...well, he had no option now did he? he didn't really want to say anything with this Apollo there, but he'd have to tell them, or risk being pushed away for good. After Apollo had finished talking, Nikolai spoke. "Before I came here, I had just come from Ariel. where I'd just finished my degree. I'm a doctor, not an aristocrat, although I do have a good education. after my parents were killed, I was sent to Beaumonde, where my uncle lived, like I said. but about 2 years later he got sick of me and sent me to Ariel to learn how to be a doctor. I didn't want to tell you until we had firmed up a deal, because I'm kind of...." he hushed his voice. "well, lets just say the authorities aren't taking to kindly to me right now. on Ariel, that is. I'm not sure about here yet. but I am a doctor, and the sooner we could find a damn ship and leave the better, instead of all this rambling around. I have an electronic account that wires 4000 Credits to me, if that could be useful as well." |

Adelle whistled in admiration, "IF that could be useful? It's a damn sight better than 50 plats. We can get ourselves a nice little windowless wonder with that. Assuming we want ol' Apollo here along for the ride. Lead on Nikolai. Who's in charge of this place anyway?" |

Apollo turned and regard Nikolai and addressed him as if wary of a dangerous animal. "I, um... appreciate your honesty. Truth be told, I'm avoiding um... trouble from my past as well, though not from the authorities. I suspect if we pool our resources we should be able to afford a ship, though I haven't the faintest idea as to what we should be looking for. Also, we would be wise to leave shortly after completing the transaction as our electronic transactions can be traced." |

Aaron nodded slowly as the exchange between the two men took place. He was beginning to feel a little bit outclassed. After all, he'd never had an education, not a formal one like his companions. Neither had he the skills they seemed to have (usefulness aside). However he did seem to have one thing going for him, there was no past to haunt him. He was free of cares, nothing weighing on his conscience. It was a good feeling. But it was time to get going, at least everyone agreed on that, if not for the same reasons. "Alright, let's go then. I know where we can get a nice ship," He knew the 'ports of Persephone like the back of his hand, and with the money they had he could find them a quite satisfactory ship, and they would still have a little left over when they were through. "We'll head to Livermoore Dockyard." He explained turning from the group and leading the way through the crowds to a fairly distinguished looking yard. The ships here, while not brand new, certainly hadn't been used to harshly. As they walked inside Aaron turned to his companions. "That one!" He said without hesitation. It was a large, sleek ship. She had four thrusters one to the port, on to starboard, and a set that stuck out at forty-five degree angles above those. These were attached to a rather bulbous body, which tapered down into a long cylindrical "tail". At the front were a pair of round bulging windows. They were the only ones on the entire ship. "A Dragonfly MkIII," The resemblance to the insect was immediately obvious. She has speed, maneuverability, everything that makes a good racer." Or smuggler, or escape ship, he added mentally. "There's a shuttle pod topside between the second pair of thrusters." He pointed to the details as he listed them, "See those flat areas under the main thrusters? If you've got a little extra we could mount a pair of... What ever gun you want, just in case." He stopped, although he could have espoused the virtues of the ship for hours. "What do you think?"
