Nikolai looked at the ship with mounting interest as Aaron described it. "I like it. It looks....efficiently beautiful." He looked down to the over to the side, right next to one of the windows, and saw the name Zealous Star, painted in blue on the gray backdrop. he liked the name, but that could be easily changed later, for whatever purposes. "now all we need is a captain."

Apollo suddenly began to feel very nervous. He hoped it wasn't showing. I know I'm desperate, he thought to himself, but do I really want to make a life for myself sailing the black? "Yes... it looks quite... um..." The prospect of living on a ship was beginning to sink in and Apollo was having trouble speaking. "I'll trust you're judgement," Apollo managed to stammer at Aaron, whom he assumed was the most experienced spacefarer among them. Nerves aside, Apollo knew sailing the black was his best option. It would make it exceedingly difficult for his enemies to track him. Still he did not relish that thought of living a few feet from the vacuum of space.

Also, Apollo had a powerful need to eat and, ironically, this boat for all intents and purposes was cheaper too him than using his meager 50 plat worth of hard currency he still had left. He would just have to modify his accounts to make the ship look like an investment rather than a personal purchase. As an investment, it may not draw too much attention to his own name.

Adelle looked around for the dealer. She wanted to get things moving, hanging around in one spot like this was making her feel edgy. She spotted a man dressed in what passed for semi-professional attire on Persephone. He at least had a shirt on under his tie. She caught his eye and gestured for him to come over, doubtless he'd been watching them the entire time.
"'S'cuse me good sir, these boys here," she jerked her head at Nikolai, Aaron, and Apollo, "they're real keen to find a ship. Think that's something you could help us with?"
The man nodded, without speaking, and walked unhurriedly over to the group.
"Whatchu want?" he grunted, not sounding entirely friendly. "I warn you, I won't be cheated by some core dandies looking for a quick joy ride off this dump."

Apollo thought it best to let someone else talk to this troglodyte of a businessman. It seemed fairly obvious he thought of Apollo about as highly as Apollo thought of him, which, needless to say, was not very much. Apollo took a cautious step backwards and waited for the other's responses.

Nikolai's remark about needing a captain rankled Aaron somewhat. He had assumed himself to be the best candidate for captain. But there would be time for such things later. Seeing that no one else seemed inclined to enter negotiations with the dealer, Aaron stepped forward. In truth he was glad to be the one to negotiate, he knew his way around a shipyard, and around the people who ran them. His companions, while perfectly able to converse politely, would not have lasted a minute against the wheeling and dealing the dealer would employ.

"I'm not gunna cheat you, sir." Once again Aaron's accent changed in the blink of an eye, he was speaking the dealer's language now. "I'm in charge of this venture," For now at any rate, anyway this man would never think differently, "I've been around though, so don't you try to put anything over on me neither." He grinned roguishly at the dealer, who smiled back despite himself. Almost instantly it seemed they were haggling. Aaron insisted on one price, the nearly rankled. Aaron lowered his price, the dealer raised it. They spoke quickly, words running together until it would take a skilled linguist to untangle the convoluted speech. Finally they shook hands.

"I'm not the one's going to be payin' for this anyhow," Aaron said in conclusion, he directed the dealer to Nikolai and Apollo. As the dealer went to the other to men to finalize the bargain Aaron looked at Adelle and gave a satisfied nod as if to say, "That was easy."

Apollo gingerly took hold of the grungy machine the dealer handed him and tapped a began rapidly pressing buttons to access his account. After finishing, Apollo handed the machine back to the dealer.

The dealer looked down at the machine, up at Apollo, and then down and up again before asking, "Ashley Roberts?" to confirm his identity.

Apollo blushed, the effect rather obvious on his pale skin, and confirmed, "That is correct."

Viktor cut through the crowded streets of Persephone, clearly out of place in a sort of pseudo military garb consisting of grey cargo pants with high topped black combat boots and a form fitting black shirt under a grey, sleeveless combat vest.
He was quite a conspicuous fellow, his clothing caused him to stand out for one thing but it was mainly his hard stare that held with it a look of purpose as he marched through the crowd in the direction of the shipyards, the large rifle strapped to his back did nothing to avert the stares of passers by either, even for a place like Persephone, the kid appeared armed to the teeth.
He glanced at his wrist where a small computer rested, he had twenty two minutes to get in, assassinate his target and get out, he would do it in half of that time.

As he neared the shipyard he began to pick up pace before sliding into a back alley, he passed by some beggars and scaled some storage crates, allowing him to reach the roof where he had a clear view.
Even without looking through the scope he could see his target, blissfully unaware of his impending fate.
Of course the ship dealer really had no reason to suspect that he was the target of an alliance weapon, he was just a guy trying to turn a profit not some big time crimelord.
Viktor took a few seconds to prepare his rifle and then lay face down on the rooftop, peering through the scope at the dealer.

He was surrounded by some buyers, three men and a woman, he had to wait until they stopped blocking his shot.
Finally the dealer and another man shook hands, as a second man stepped forward to continue the deal Viktor turned on his laser sight for precision, the laser was blue and consisted of three lines which appeared right on the dealer’s forehead.
Viktor held his breath so that it would not disturb his shot, steadied himself and then his gloved hand gently pulled the trigger.
The gun let out a brilliant crack as the projectile leapt forth and passed right through his target’s head.

Blood and brains splattered against Apollo's fine clothing and face. Apollo's face immediately drained of all the color it gained from his previous embarrassment and he froze in panic.

He could not believe what had just happened. Apollo was trapped in his own mind as the memory of that disastrous duel that sent him into the rim replayed in his head. The only thoughts he could manage were How could this happen? which repeated over and over in his mind. If Apollo were voicing those thoughts aloud he was not aware.

Adelle watched the dealer crumple slowly to the ground "Well," she said out loud, "all that worry about money and now it's not even a problem." She stopped, mortified, realizing what she'd said. Really she needed to work on her brain-to-mouth filter, her teachers at the Companion school had always said that was one of her biggest challenges and she'd never really overcome it.

She stared at the dealer. He had been shot, right? It had happened so fast, but there had definitely been a shot, and yes, now she could see blood slowly but tidily, (at this point) seeping from a hole in his forehead. My, but that was clean work. She looked up to see where the shot had come from, it had definitely been high, just in time to see a head bob out of sight behind a rooftop. "There!" she shouted, pointing. Or at least that was what she'd meant to shout, but her coherency had gone out the window after her first embarrassing reaction. What she really said was "Waugh!" and waved her hand wildly in the general direction of the rooftop.

Nikolai jumped as the loud crack reverberated through the streets. Almost instinctively, he pulled the revolver out of his holster, crouching low to the ground. One quick glance at the dealer and he knew his services would not be needed. He glanced over at Adelle and looked to were she was waving, just noticing a shape darting back from a rooftop. His next words were calm as ice. "Alright, everyone. Calm down. We need to get off this rock, and fast, before the Alliance come to make sure we didn't see this, if you know what I mean." He went to the dead man, now covered in blood, and grabbed his IdentCard out of his pocket, along with a small rack of sequence chips (he just hoped one of them matched that ship) and threw them to Aaron. "Can you fly this thing? I certainly hope so." Then he turned to the rest of the group. "Apollo, Adelle, wake up. We gotta move, NOW! No matter how innocent you think we are here, the Alliance will come, and they will find us guilty of something"

Aaron reacted in much the same way Nikolai did, but minus the gun. He deftly caught the keycards that Nikolai threw to him and gave them a quick once over. Zealous Star was written on one, he dropped the ring onto his index finger, remembering which one was the right key, and without waiting for them to move, grabbed the arms of Apollo and Adelle. As he dragged them toward the waiting ship he tried a bit of humor, he often found it hard to take things completely seriously, "It's too bad that we're in such a hurry, now we could pick any of these ships..." He gave a wistful sigh, but it came out more like a grunt because of the weight he was dragging.

With only a moment's pause to find the slot Aaron inserted the card. The main hatchway opened to his left with a metallic clang. Before the door had lowered completely he was shoving Apollo and Adelle ahead of him. "Nikolai, could you get that door closed?" He asked nonchalantly as soon as he was inside. The hatch opened into a common room in the belly of the ship, it had couches against one circular wall, and a small curved table bolted to the floor in front of them. Clearly the last people to own it hadn't been interested in hauling cargo.

"Sit tight you two." He said, finally letting go of the arms of his shell shocked companions. With that he left them and ran forward to a small access ladder hidden behind a gaudy drapery. In disgust he threw it down to the ground, then scampered nimbly up to the top. At the top of the ladder was a door that opened directly into the cockpit. It was a spacious one, as far as cockpits went. Only a bare second later Aaron was sitting in the pilot's seat. He looked over the controls with growing trepidation, this was a newer model and the controls were at once like and unlike the other ships he'd flown. Gingerly he looked out the huge bulbous front windows. A crowd was already gathering around the dead man. Aaron didn't want to hurt them, but adrenaline overruled his rational brain. He flicked all four thrusters on with a shuddering roar, then pulled back on the flight yolk. The ship lifted off with a lurch that made Aaron's stomach fall away, then he was shoved into his seat as he pushed the ship to full acceleration. In seconds they had cleared the city and were broaching the blackness at the edge of the atmosphere.

The ground lurched underneath him and jolted Apollo back into terrifying realty. Where am I... what happened... oh God I'm on a ship! Apollo screamed as the 'ground' tilted and shifted violently beneath him. He lost his balanced and flailed his arms, attempting to grab on to the nearest solid object.

He managed to get a handhold on something -- Apollo was not sure what as his eyes were squeezed shut -- and blindly latched on to it and hoped it was secured.

((ooc I leave it to the next poster who wants to to decide what I've found. I hope it is creative, hilarious or embarrassing))

As soon as his task was complete, Viktor sunk back below the rooftop and rolled over onto his back. There was not a single hint of emotion on the face of the young man for the murder he had just committed. Not fear or guilt, not pride at the perfect shot that he had just made but also no malicious pleasure either, he had simply completed the task and now he would return to the shuttle as his mission required.

Viktor stood slowly to observe the growing group around his fallen target and as he did a ship he recognised as a Dragonfly roared over his head, his gaze followed it before he made his way back down the storage crates and into the alleyway.
According to his mission parameters, the only thing that Viktor truly needed to avoid was capture. Stealth was barely an issue in this particular operation as he worked for the alliance, and the alliance, operating in a realm over and above the law apparently, could simply deny everything, even if he had to kill a few people on his way out.
Even so, every action he took increased the possibility of being tied to the alliance, something which would bring severe consequences which is why he carried no evidence of the alliance with him. He wore no uniform, carried no badge or insignia, all of his equipment, while of alliance design, was not marked and had been customised to appear like any other piece of gear one would find in the core.

As Viktor strode through the backalley, the beggars there gave him shocked, terrified looks, they knew it was him but they made no attempt to stop him as he exited into the streets of Persephone and made for the waiting shuttle.
Meanwhile, inside the shuttle Viktor's handler, a woman likely in her fifties sat beside a man of african american appearance awaiting the return of her active agent.
All of a sudden, preceded by a short blast of static came the voice of Viktor who declared his first objective succesful and gave them his position and estimated time of arrival at the shuttle, he had nearly six minutes to spare being only half of that away.
Once Viktor was off the communications, the woman turned to the man and gave him an order.
"Ma'am are you sure?" he asked with concern.
"Yes, our boy here needs to be able to adapt to changing mission parameters, notify the authorities"

Several officers were already at the shipyard investigating the shooting of the dealer when the call came over the comms. giving the location, direction and a breif description matching Viktor, and they were on his trail.

Nikolai took one last look around the shipyard before closing the latch. People were staring at him and pointing, like he had even done something wrong. Screw 'em he thought, and shut the latch with a clang, just as the ship lurched horridly. He flattened himself against the door, and realized he was standing in what looked like a home. He saw Adelle, sitting on one of the couches, looking ashen. Then he saw Apollo. It looked as if the man had slipped and fallen under the table, somehow managing to grab onto Adelle's leg in the process. His eyes were squeezed shut, a silent scream adorning his lips. Adelle didn't even seem to notice; she was grabbing onto the sides of the couch, eyes wide, staring at nothing

then, all of a sudden, the ship quieted, and everything became still. We had entered space.

((ooc should we move to the "aboard ship" section of the discussion now?))

Adelle was shaken out of her shock by a growing dull pain in her right leg. She looked down. Apollo had a death grip around her ankle. It looked like it was the only thing between him, and death in a pool of hot lava with lava-immune Reavers in it.
"Hey man!" she exclaimed, distracted for the moment from the current crisis, "look, I don't like being chased by assassins anymore than the next person but amputating my foot isn't going to help anyone. Besides we're safe for now." The ship gave an other wild lurch. "Well, we probably are anyway." Her words had no effect on the prone figure. He appeared to have his eyes closed, the side of his face pressed hard to the floor. This was no time to be polite... disregarding any and all upper class society training, she grabbed Apollo's hair and lifted up his face. "Open your eyes," she said, shaking his head gently." Slowly, and oh so reluctantly, he opened first one and then both. "What in hell is wrong with you?" she said. She'd never seen anyone go that pale before.
