One thing you might want to consider, when looking at the numerous policies for pet insurance, is the option to take out "cover for life". This means that should your dog contact an illness that requires medical treatment for the rest of its life, the insurance company will pick up the bills and continue the cover. Some insurance companies may decline cover on renewal, if your dog requires lifetime treatment. I have both Oakley and Otto covered for this with Pet Plan. When I insured Oakley the first months premium was free, two days later he had campyler bacter (food poisioning) :o . Cost of treatment £743. The thing that impressed me was I gave the vet the claim form, they completed it, set it off to Pet Plan and all I had to pay was the excess. On renewal the premium stayed the same. I took out Otto's insurance a month ago. They gave me the first 2 months free and a discount for having both dogs insured with them. Pet Plan may not be the cheapest but they certainly provide a first class service. Its worth shopping around, but read the small print. Want you dont want is for the insurance company to decline renewal if you dog developes a long term or life time illness as you will find it expensive if not impossible to find a new insurance company to take on this life time treatment. You pay for what you get. IMO some insurance is better than no insurance. |
