I hope folk don't take offense but a couple of time this week I've read about covering ticks with vaseline etc. Yes it's true that it does kill the tick but unfortunately does so by sufferocation. Now before you think I've gone totally off my rocker and joined Animal Rights for Ticks basically what happens is that the tick reguritates into the hosts blood stream - and being one of the major carriers of Lyme Disease which dogs can get in exactly the same way as humans, this is to be avoided at all costs. So is you do find a tick, don't panic the article attached says that an infected tick has to be attached to the body for over 48 to pass an infectious disease. If you've not got a tick remover at hand, please take your dog to the vet and ask him/her to remove it instead. We've only just started to be aware of Lyme Disease in this country and it really is serious, especially as it's quite likely to be misdiagnosed. Article Edited by Tafia, Jul 2 2008, 01:52 PM.
