Sorry if Im being a little slow but Ive just read the excellant thread on stripping borders and had a few more questions in relation to welshies. In the past we always had holly stripped at her breeders a few times a year - we would take her in looking like a big black bear and when finished she would have no wirey fur at all - just her grey undercoat. As she got older we decided to clip her because she has allergic skin disease and we find it easier to manage to keep it short all year round. We have always striped robbie ourselves. My mum has just got a new welsh terrier puppy - Alice - and is keen to strip her herself. We assumed that holly's haircut always had to be so dramatic as it was only being done a few times a year and once the coat is long and past the point of no return it all has to come out. Ideally we would like to keep alices coat of a medium length all year. All the resources we have found seem to be about grooming for the show ring which isnt really the aim. At the moment she is only 14wks and looks like a strange badger cross bog brush with what I call puppy feather but her tight wirey coat is starting to come through. At what age and stage of coat do we need to start stripping her? After that can we just continue to pull the coat as and when like we do with robbie?

Sorry for the long post, ill reward all those who read it with some cute photos!
