I haven't posted for a while due to one thing and another (mainly a hard drive wipe-out!) but I finally found my way back. My Fred has just been diagnosed with hip dysplasia. I haven't heard of a terrier getting this before, just wondered if anyone else had? We're still in the stage of rest and painkillers after overdoing it at a HTM workshop, but in a couple of weeks we will be going back to see the vet to discuss what exercise and activities he will be able to do. As you may imagine it's hard to keep a terrier quiet and peaceful when under house arrest! So we did have a ten minute lead walk today, just to get him out of the house. Hopefully we will be able to carry on training at obedience and some 'ground' HTM (no jumps or on hind legs) as long as the sessions are short - so that's our twice yearly training weekend now cancelled forever. :( On a positive note - his weight has dropped to 11.5kg (finally!) - last time we were on here he was still 12.5 I think and it was moving incredibly slowly. We were going to continue on to get him down to about 10/10.5 but now he has this diagnsis I will keep going until I can see his ribs. Apparently it's the best thing I can do for his hips, along with keeping his muscle tone good. |
