My parents rescue dog Sam suffered with this and still does to a lesser degree. Fotunately they were told of this issue by the RSPCA as he had eaten his way through a leather sofa at his previous owners house (he was being left alone for 11 hrs a day) They were lucky to be able to build up leaving him very slowly starting at around 5 mins by just getting coats on etc and standing in the garden  to the point of now leaving him up to 5 hrs. They have also started to ignore him on their immediate return as he appears to be so relieved and overly excited that they have come back, by making a fuss of him only reinforces his anxiety. He is also confined to the kitchen with the door open into the conservatory. They sometimes return to coats pulled down of the hooks but no damage. I would suggest as Lu says going through the same motions every time she goes to leave as she will pick up on body language etc. Mum always gives him one of his biscuits before they go, he never eats it until they return. If the crate doesn't help then maybe leaving her in a room with your mums other dog will help her to bond more closely with Arf and therefor follow his lead. Best of luck anyway :flower:
