Arnica works by thinning the blood. It's action can be exascerbated with certain drugs. It's suitable for treating bruising but I wouldn't recommend it for dogs who have had surgery without a vet's agreement as it may cause bleeding to the site or adverse reactions with other medications being given. If it is allowed to be given though, it is supposed to be very good for hastening healing. Edited by wild whippies, May 10 2009, 01:55 PM.
