ive got a number of elderly dogs and for years i fed them a complete diet but when my daughter came back to live with us she cooked food for her racing dogs every day and so i got into the habit of it and i have to say it has made a difference especially to their coats and general condition.im not a fan of tinned food as you dont know what goes into it.i have a friend on another forum who has worked in the meat industry all his life from abbatoirs to convenience meals etc.after what hes told me i wont buy any ready made convenience meals unless it says chicken breast on the box rather than reconstituted chicken (the stuff thats all mangled and shredded then made into chunks of chicken shapes)hes currently working for a company that makes food like this for tescos and farmfoods.as for mince in some places he told me they use udders and other nasty bits and pieces to bulk the meat out :(
i feed a minced beef or lamb with freshly minced veggies and pasta and then add a wholemeal mixer biscuit to it.i also add evening primrose oil and a supplement for arthritis and rheumatism (glucosamine/chondroitin)
