Last time, when we invited the heelers, we got a brilliant turnout mostly from advertising on Dog Pages and K9 Community and here. The first one I did was for native Irish breeds and it went really well. We didn't have huge numbers, but we got more than enough to make a profit and we had talks on all the native Irish breeds - including a really interesting comparrision between working and show Irish setters. The next time we invited all the native terrier breeds and I contacted all the breed notes writers in Our Dogs and Dog World: went to shows to hand out flyers and got lots of people saying they would come. It was actually the worst turnout we've ever had. Of the show people who said they would come, we had amazing support from the Dandies - but little else. We still made a profit and had a great day, but for all the effort I made talking to the show fraternity, it really didn't turn out to be a productive use of my time. Sad because I was really looking forward to seeing loads of native terrier breeds. The rat relay race is run in teams of 4. Each person has to run over to a box full of straw, put their hand in and pull out a rat :yikes: Fortunately, they are actually tennis balls covered in grey fabric with ears and eyes and a tail!!! Then they have to put the rat in a child's fishing net and run back before passing the net to the next person and dog. It started off as a children's race but the adults actually get much more into it when it is their turn! The potato race is where you put a potato on your head and walk with your dog in a straight line. The last person to lose their potato is the winner. :) |
